Trying to play GTA multiplayer just now, this has happened 3 times. Twice ingame and one in the loading screen. I've had problems connecting to games. I just get kicked before I even get to the lobby. And I got into one game and it just froze on a black screen. Now this finally happened.

WTF!?

mine did that before dying with no red light of death and out of warranty!!!!!

Wrap a couple of towels around the 360 and run, it brought about 3 rlod for me, and got a warranty fix from MS. They claimed to fix, but it was a refurb with new front etc from MS, it took 7 days and came from germany

The GPU failing does not mean an impending RROD, though it is likely the console will die. Bizarrely, the Xbox will boot, and work quite happily even with a dead GPU, you just get no picture (or a corrupt one, as above).

Why are todays consoles so unreliable, I mean before I used the internet and owned the original Playstation I never had any problems and neither did any of my mates.

Now it seems all you ever hear about is next gen consoles breaking, any reason why?

I'd recommend playing another game, Considering you say it doesnt do it in the GTA4 single player. Just multiplayer.

It does look like a GPU problem. BUT a GPU problem thats only present in the multiplayer aspect of the same game!?

Sounds unlikely

consoles now days are a lot more complicated that they used to be.

greater complexity = potentially more problems

Mind you, even the playstation had its fair share of problems if i remember rightly, just nothing like this and the RROD etc

They're not, it's just the 360 really. You just hear about it more nowadays due to the internet.
