So there I was, casually browsing the M5 section on Autotrader (Not something I do much *cough*) when I checked out the E60's.

Since when could you pick up tidy high milers for less than £30k?!

Check some of these out!

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...ake=BMW&model=M5&min_pr=&max_pr=&max_mileage=

And if you don't fancy the gamble you could even get an Approved Used low mileage one for £35k after haggling:

These are depreciating SERIOUSLY quickly - you couldnt get an E39 M5 for this money in 2002 (After they'd been out 3 years).

I wonder if we could see AUC examples for £20-25k in about 2 years time...

they arent cheap thats the normal price for a 3 year old car - its depreciated by about half

brand new is £64,000

are £35,000 for an approved 3 year old one - that seems about right

cheap would be a car worth less than 40% after 3 years

They are cheap becuase in the past it has usually taken more than 3 years since release for an M Power BMW to shed more than 50% of its value.

in the past the country hasnt been hitting a recession

house prices have taken their biggest plummet in decades, etc

this has an affect on the car market - putting it back to normal whereas when the prices where going up and the market booming, people had more money therefore they retained their value a bit more because people had more money to burn

Thanks for the economics lesson, I found it very useful.

M3 will get over 30mpg on a cruise and the previous M5... well Pete manages mid 20's I think.

So how did BMW manage to get away with such a low figure for the E60 M5? Actually, 3 years ago, it was just as people started to banter on about engines and MPG.

BMW probubly went "bang out this mental M5 with 500BHP that does stupid single figure MPG, get it out our system, then we will sit down and talk Efficient Dynamics so we appear all green and cuddly"

:)

when people spend £65,000 on a fast car i dont think their gonna worry about an extra hundred a week/month on petrol

Its more a comparison between previous M5s and M3s than an outright figure. Your right, if your spending £100k on a supercar then you wont care about single figure MPG, but if your an old M5 owner you may think twice about upgrading to the new model only to have it use twice the fuel...

Do you ever talk anything but rubbish?

£500/week is over 8 tanks of fuel which sounds ridiculous.

he had to take business trips to manchester every so often (by that i mean at least once a week) - his passion is driving fast - he is always in his car - ive been with him in the clyde tunnel whilst doing well over a hundred with the roof down, he loves fast cars and drives them hard

even one of my other cousins said i would never buy a car thats been driven by him due to the way he drives

How many miles in a tank at motorway MPG?

My guestimates come out at stupid amounts like 30000 miles a week. Which, tbh, is just BS. What the hell is your job if you drive 500 miles a day!

So he puts in a full tank every day but one, where he puts two full tanks in? Sounds... pretty unbelievable to me.
