USA uses brain for once: Obama 'clinches nomination'

It's certainly not as clear-cut as you make out. And to think that a McCain presidency would just be an extension of the Bush presidency is naive at best to be honest.

Where have you been!? A vote for McCain is a vote for Bush don't you know?!

The US will have its first Black President and in VC a woman !!! :D

Good times ahead !

That's the wrong attitude. Being a negro doesn't automatically make him the perfect president and neither does Hillary's lack of a penis ensure she will be a great VP.

Everyone seems to be convinced that a negro is more suited to the job, especially as Mr. Obama gained a lot of votes purely due to the colour of his skin. That's just stupid. Whatever happened to choosing a president based on their skill, policy and suitability for the job?

You'd imagine the mood over there must be for some sort of change. Just how dramatic the change from Bush will be remains to be seen.

it never ever ever ever ever works, so something completely arbitrary is just as effective. Probably.

I don't see that everyone is convinced that a negro is more suited to the job...? And both McCain and Clinton have gained votes based on factors that weren't dependent on their ability, it's life, live with it.

I, for one, support Obama based on his ideals and policies.

Live with it? What?

I don't oppose Obama, however I do not like the "Hey Betsy, it's a ****** in a suit, lets vote for him 'cause he's different, hyuk." attitude that a lot of Americans seem to be adopting.

If (when?) elected I think he will make a good president.

All i can say is that it will be very interesting to see if America is ready for a black President...my honest opinion is that i dont think they are. I dont think they are ready for a woman President either so Clinton is out basically...cant see her beating Obama tbqh.

I like Obama but im waiting to see if the Americans have the balls to vote in a black President...considering 50 yrs ago they were treated as second class citizens. I can tell you one thing for certain, a lot of these inbred hill billys from down south are going to be up in arms with him getting into office, should he do so.

It's just that you seem so appalled that people are picking Obama based on the colour of his skin, but then I'm saying the effect I guess kinda cancels out because it's going to happen for all the candidates. A lot of people will pick a candidate because he looks friendly, or because he has a nice voice, it's the way of the world....

I don't think there's ever going to be a time when every single person picks their candidate based on the criteria you listed. And I honestly don't see this ""Hey Betsy, it's a ****** in a suit, lets vote for him 'cause he's different, hyuk." on a large scale. In fact, I see quite the opposite. I see idiot Americans not voting for him because they think he's a Muslim, or because he doesn't wear a flag pin on his suit.

Here's a clip from The Daily Show, worth watching both because of the video clips of West Virginia voters, and because it's hilarious anyway.

If Hilary gets the VC, I'll be surprised.
Very surprised.

Woman's got issues.

She tends to say whatever she wants without thinking first which is why she is often at the butt end of all political jokes.

Obama is going to make it. Today's America is not Yesterday's America. Today it's filled with younger citizens who like the appeal of Obama and it's only a certain number of states that have opposed Obama because of his background.

Then again there's also a few that opposed Clinton because she's a woman and one guy who interviewed in the media as saying something along the lines of it not being any place for a woman!!!

It'll still be very tight between McCain and Obama imo, McCain polls pretty strongly against Obama.

But the president in 24 was black and he rocked! Doesn't that mean Obama will too?

I joke obviously, but after looking at Clinton's continued change of heart when she sees money and after her basically saying "I'm staying in this race because there's a chance Obama will be assassinated" why would you want to vote for her? Obama is a breath of fresh air that may bring the level of intelligence in the US government up to the level of the rest of the world.

McCain really does seem like Bush. He will appeal to the Southern states but only because of his shoot now, ask questions later, we rule the world attitude.

I think the two parties are vastly different. The gap is much bigger than the difference between Labour and Conservative. If I was an American I'd know who to vote for, Obama. As a UK citizen I'm a bit on the fence, leaning towards Conservative... but that's a whole other thread :p

It's a good result, but will Obama still has to win the presidency - and even if he does, will he really offer significant change?

I won't hold my breath.

I think the USA would do well to elect Obama as President, but I really don't see it happening. If ever there was an election that the Democrats should win it is this one, but with all the bickering and dirty politics they've been playing they've pretty much put McCain in office themselves.

I think Obama would have Clinton as VP if she accepted, but she's expecting him to lose the election and if she's VP when this happens she wouldn't be a viable candidate for President next time around.
