Think I annoyed my neighbour

I was doing some work on my car this evening and had to tap the brake calipers quite hard to get them off. As it was 10pm, i was trying not to make too much noise. Low and behold, a bit of a moody cow shouted out her window for me to keep the noise down, her children were sleeping. I asked what the problem was and to feel free to have a go at me if i woke them up, but pointed out that if they were asleep, there was no problem. She just grumbled and went inside.

If she had asked me to stop i wouldn''t have been so sarcy, but trying to use her kids as emotional blackmail made me want to wind her up a little. Was I being a complete tool? 10pm and two firm wacks with a hammer into a caliper covered by two thick cloths.

No, kinds shouldn't be asleep that early anyways :p.
Sounds like a *****, me and my mates often get sent away by some woman from the window when we're chilling, apparently we're too loud. Have enough of all these people going to sleep so early or whining about noise .

If it's only a few wacks what's the problem? If it was like a lawn mower going off at 10pm on a work night then you may have gotten a difference response :p

If my neighbour was removing his brake calipers at 10pm I would have to go out and confiscate his tools. There's all day to do stuff like that, 10pm isn't the time. I have neighbours that put shelves up and knock walls down overnight though, so maybe I'm biased.

The response was a bit off, but if the noise was literally just two bangs then I can't see too much wrong. Would have been a better idea to do it during the day where possible though.

Rubbish, at 10 pm it's still light outside ( at this time of year) and thus a perfect time to work on anything, how people can go to sleep when it's still light outside is beyond me...

Don't talk crap. I've 2 kids in junior school and 1 in high school. If some neanderthal is bashing his nova at 2200hrs he'll have me to answer to, and has in the past. Fair enough if you live in a semi out in the ass end of nowhere, but I live in a terrace where we have a bit of consideration.

If I hadn't fixed the caliper i would be taking the day off work tomorrow. All day for me is from 7pm when I get home from work, not sure what you do to have your days so free?

I would have pointed out to her that if her kids were sleeping she might want to keep her voice down

It wouldn't bother me, if it was just a couple of bangs. A powertool running for half-an-hour, yeah, that would annoy anybody and rightly so, but 2 bangs, hell, I wouldn't even get up.

EDIT: Threaten her with 2 more bangs if she doesn't clam up: You hitting her, her hitting the floor. :D

I work 12 hours a day, 72 hours a week with an 8-year old Mitsubishi and a 15-year old Peugeot serviced by myself on my drive without resorting to knocking calipers off at 10pm. Have a bit of consideration.

What are the chances?

quite high actually, one to release one siezed bolt and another to release the second one. Take me at my word or not, it's up to you, but if i was being a pillock, some of my neighbours who actually live closer would have let me know. Come to think of it, where do you live?

In the middle of a rough council estate in a terraced house. What difference does it make? Manners are manners and make a considerate neighbour regardless.

Just because you work for security doesn't mean you can just threaten everybody as you please...Even if it'd be 3 am and the chav next door would blow his stereo at full volume.

You're not one, considerate people tend to be less agressive. (
confiscate his tools
,

get back out there and give her something to moan about, lets start by refitting the exhuast!

funnily enough, that's my job for the weekend. The brake was due to be changed, hence i had the parts ready, but my left rear actually started grinding as i got home so had no choice really. Ate some dinner and then went out. Did the left one no problem, but the right one would not come off with my socket set, so out came my hammer and spanner, bish bosh, job done.

Sorry, but what? I challenge you to relate any of that to what I've posted here. Go on.
I bet you live near a security guard who kicked your arse for playing your stereo too loud at 3am.

10pm is a bit late and it would be entirely reasonable for kids to be in bed asleep. also you say you have neighbours who live closer? so from a few doors away it could still be heard indoors? pretty loud at that time of night to be honest. fair enough if it was just a couple of bangs but you really could have done it earlier.
