Socket A Barton (Year 2005) Unlocked?

Another cool trip down memory lane :)

Found a 2v suicide shot of my old Barton XP-M 2600+ :cool: I remember sourcing it from a chap located in California a good few years ago. I was obsessed about getting the best stepping.
I had a fabled IQYHA 0348, it would run 2.75GHz totally stabe. It was my 1st real attempt at overclocking :)

I had an old XP2600+ with unlocked multiplier although overclocking seemed to be very limited. I can't remember the week of manufacture. It didn't like an FSB above 180Mhz iirc despite all my efforts.
 
neoboy: It's an XP-M 2500+ I still use in my PVR box. I used to have it overclocked to 2.6GHz all the time when it was in my gaming rig, now it's in my living room I underclock it to 1.66GHz and drop the Vcore to save power and heat. Very handy little chip :)

Thats my XP3000+ Big Wayne is maxing out !
I was very happy with my Socket A and have only recently change to Q6600 !

I was a little sad to sell the old rig, I very nearly kept it as I had purchase a old package of new compontents, Case. Q6600, RAM, Sata II HDD's etc, so I could still run the old rig !
shame, tears have been shed !

Got my 2500+ XP-M this morning and just got round to installing it. Only have value ram PC3200 that doesn't like going above the 200Mhz so only limited to multiplier. Refuses to go more than 200Mhz and 12 multi at the moment. Mind you that's with my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, I will dig up my Abit NF7 V2.0 (probably over the weekend as I think I would have to reinstall my Windows) as my Asus doesn't go above 1.825 core and for some reason even when at default speed the voltage is at 1.55 rather than 1.45 (doesn't get any lower than that).

Oh and I don't remember was there any need to up the northbridge voltage with these chips to get better overclocking results?

EDIT: Tysonator I already have X800XT thanks for the offer.

Hmm temps seem a bit too hot as well 48C idle, guess putting on a heatsink after a "few" pints was not a good idea.

Ah the original owner, yes its a nice Socket A chip, best I personally used!

What speed did you run it at then? stock 2100MHz or?

It runs the stock speed for me using 1.5v which is decent but it doesn't seem 24/7 stable much over 2200MHz so far? still got a little adjusting to do yet but I'm happy with XP3200 speeds at lowing volts.

[edit] Will get your old motherboard installed soon dude . . . btw it's an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe not an A7N8X-E Deluxe, not a biggy but my spider senses saved me at the last moment before I flashed the board with the wrong BIOS!

Yes, great combo, I had the same a few years ago-back when it was cutting edge lol.
I got 4 years outta it and now it's in my son's bedroom, still O'clocked @2.4 and in use daily. Marvellous chip.

I seem to remember, with that combo, only dudes with water could get it much above 200mhz. Should do 12x tho-2.4. I also know that my chip idled around 38? It doesnt have a great HSF, but MX-2 seemed to help a lot.
If yer really stuck, let me know and I'll copy my BIOS for you, as I said earlier, it's well over 4 years old and has been O'clocked since day one without any complaints.

To be fair, even now, it's still a helluva chip, I would never sell mine cos you just couldnt buy better-if we're talking bang for buck. My son uses my old PC with a 6800 LE (all pipes unlocked, thank you OC) and it plays HL2 flawlessly.

You do however have a point, I could really do with a holiday too;)

No, not BH5. It was OCZ PC4000 VX, which was UTT-CH5. It was running at 3.3vdimm on a DFI LPB. Apart from my current rig it was the best bit of fun i have ever had clocking. Contrary to common belief, not a huge amount of LPB's ever did do 250 fsb stable. So i was well pleased with that clock :D
 
Whils't were on the subject of Barton Cores i have a question.

I'm just in yhe midddle of selling all my old computer parts so whilst trying to find out how much My 3200 Barton was worth i noticed that most of the ones i saw were on a green pcb, mine is brown does this make it any different or did they just run out of Green/Brown pcb.

This was the first non pre-built PC/part i ever bought so didnt really know what i was buying.
 
Nope, Barton cores were produced on both colour pcb's.
This XP-M barton was from the same batch as mine, same green PCB to.
