Socket A Barton (Year 2005) Unlocked?

Is the XP3000+ I am testing a Mobile version?

I don't think so but that may explain why its unlocked? I never seen an XP-M before for not sure what to look for?

Is there something in the stepping code that denotes its a Mobile?

Ah I see, the chip I am testing defaults to 1.625vCore in the BIOS. All the other chips (locked and unlocked) all default to 1.65vCore.

All the Barton cores processors I have atm (XP2500+ XP2600+ XP3000+) run stock speeds totally stable with 1.5vCore. The XP2500+ (aug 2003) can actually run stock speeds with 1.4vCore. Had it passing Prime Small FFTs even at 1.35vCore but everynow and then when I booted the PC it wouldn't post properly and force you to enter BIOS, obviously the chip needs a certain amount of juice to actually wake up! Nudging it up to 1.4vCore got rid of that issue.

Not having a ton of joy with this XP3000 though? It passes 12 hours of Prime Small FFTs at 23000MHz and 2400MHz so far but Prime Blend falls over after about five hours?

Highlight of this chip so far is running rock solid stable XP3000+ speeds (10.5x200 - 2100MHz) with 1.5vCore and XP3200+ speeds (11x200 - 2200MHz) with 1.65vCore.

Am I missing something here? Why would Prime pass Small FFts for days but Fail Prime Blend?

Big.Wayne Your Barton model code is AXDA3000DKV4E, so I've broken down the identification of your chip. The AMD code nomenclature is fantastic for working out exactly what chip you have :)

OK

AXDA - Desktop Athlon XP (Model 8/Thoroughbred and Model 10/Barton)
3000 - 3000 MHz (rated), 2100 MHz (actual, 400 MHz FSB and 512 KB L2 cache) or 2167
D - 453-pin organic PGA (socket A/socket 462)
K - 1.65V
V - 85°C (Maximum operating temperature if you’re not sure what that temp relates to)
4 - 512 KB Level 2 cache
E - 400 MHz (effective), 200 MHz (actual)

The Processor architecture code for an XP mobile chip is AXM yours is an AXDA so its just a normal desktop chip.

neoboy, not all xp-m run a default voltage of 1.45, some higher clocked later xp-m's ran the same vcore as the desktop chips and also were multiplier locked.

Damn I’m still an AMD geek through and through :D

My 3000+ is unlocked too, never really got it to hit anything past 2.4ghz though :(, although I am on the stock heatsink with the fan replaced by a 120mm amber, so i dont expect much.

Blatent Pimpage!

Off to the members market with ye! :D

Ah the original owner, yes its a nice Socket A chip, best I personally used!

What speed did you run it at then? stock 2100MHz or?

It runs the stock speed for me using 1.5v which is decent but it doesn't seem 24/7 stable much over 2200MHz so far? still got a little adjusting to do yet but I'm happy with XP3200 speeds at lowing volts.

[edit] Will get your old motherboard installed soon dude . . . btw it's an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe not an A7N8X-E Deluxe, not a biggy but my spider senses saved me at the last moment before I flashed the board with the wrong BIOS!

Every thing was run a stock speeds.

This is the best i got from my mobile barton:)

36 second pi is nothing today but for a socket A board it was pretty decent :)

Was done on a DFI infinity (which was the little brother of the lanparty just not as sexy looking.) Vcore sure wasnt 1.45v as reported though!! More like 1.9v Ram readings are right though...had 3.3v through some BH5 stuff to hit those speeds and timings!!!

Still got the board and a few others along with a few mobile cpus that i just couldnt bare to part with. One of them would hit 200x11 at only 1.45v.

Infact i think thats the one running in my 85 year old granys computer just now....(Oldest overclocker?) will get it back one day.... but hopefully not too soon.

Think the kids will be making good use of them all soon.

AMD nomenclature stuff

Is there some sort of a linky that explains this all? My mobile is IQYHA0401XPMW and AXMH2500FQQ4C. Farthest I managed to get mine to is 205Mhz x 12, however, I'm guessing it's mostly to do with my A7N8X-E Deluxe as it doesn't go further with neither my value Crucial ram nor Geil Ultra X (matches pair). I'm really tempted to install my Abit NF7S-V2.0, however, really don't have time to mess around with reinstalling windows at the moment.

yeah i remember reading about post-week39 bartons being locked before.
The barton I have seems to be a little weird in that it only ever allowed my to use odd numbered multipliers. The stock was 13, but 11, 9, 7 worked as well. Couldn't get it to use any even or decimal numbers though. I've asked around in other forums a good while ago and no one seemed to have heard of that before.
Maybe i should keep it for being weirdly rare!

Pencil works on older Thunderbirds as the Bridges are on the surface, but on the newer CPU's they are basically down a trench cut by a laser and it involves conductive paint ans superglue as well as a sharp knife.
