Guys

Am I right is saying you need to purchase BES with xx number of licences depending on users who have a BB

Then a server to install it on, and your off?

Does the server have to be high-end? Or would a HP (for example) unit £800 be man enough?

I've seen BES and 20 user licence package for £2999.99

If anyone that has done this could outline it I'd be very greatful!

Many thanks

We had our BES server installed on a dual PIII Xeon with 2GB of RAM, it doesn't need anything special.

Which version are you going for, one that interconnects with exchange, groupwise, or domino?

Our current mobile deal is with t-mobile, do I just need to purchase the software and then use their Blackberrys and sims to connect to our mail?

Thanks for your help on this

Basically you will need to talk to T-Mobile (I assume so anyway). We bought our licensing through our provider (Orange).

The BES server sits as an intermediary between your mail server, and the central Blackberry servers on the WWW (from what I remember). So basically, the logistical train would be:

email server > local BES > WWW BES > GPRS Network > Phone.

Ok thanks

Do you purchase the BES software package via your provider too?

Or can you go to the cheapest place?

Unfortunately, that I cannot answer as I only installed the stuff, not bought it :(

I would assume so however.

OK well you've cleared a few things up for me now, main concern was that the server would cost a fair bit (how many users are running on yours?)

Looks fairly easy to do though

£2999 is quite expensive from what I remember paying, we initially had a "mini" BES that would only go up to 15 users, and we wanted to go to around 35, plus we were on an older version, so I asked Vodafone, and they wanted £3500 for it all, I ended up getting it from my reseller who was a T-mobile partner and got the lot for £2000 :)

Definately shop around. The new versions are easy to set up and more stable than Version 3, which used to hang quite a bit.

I suppose it comes down to the amount o users I want to add it ti then..

I'll do a bit of bargain hunting in that case :)

Many thanks guys

how many users you planning on having on it?

You can always start off with the cheaper 5 client versions first and then just buy the additional cals later on. You don't need to buy from your current supplier also, so definately shop around.

The only thing you need from T-Mobile would be to make sure you've a Blackberry data tariff enabled on your SIMs.

Not sure if T-mobile are the same as Vodafone, but there are two API's they can add to the mobile number, one is the Internet Blackberry and one is the Enterprise Blackberry, make sure you get the latter or it will not work!

I would say 15 users max to start with - had a browse on the web but struggling to find a supplier, anyone care to point me in the right direction? mail in trust

APN's :p

Have you asked T-Mobile for a quote for the software? Sometimes if you agree to purchase X number of handhelds they'll provide the software for free. When i last inquired about it for our NY office, they reckoned 20 new handhelds would get the software for free.

Alternatively, try RIM directly for a quote.

Here's vodafones link

Another result from google here. Prices aren't too bad, can probably get them down a bit if you speak to them
