OK, massive trauma time.

Went home at lunchtime to find my distraught 6 year old daughter with a cracked pink DS. It had been dropped once too often.

Had a quick look and it appears the hinge has cracked, so it opens but is very loose.

Can anyone advise me on repairing these things ? Are they repairable, can you get new cases for them ?

Any help would be appreciated on this, when I get home, I need to provide answers !!

Thank You

They are repairable, you can get cases for them, and from memory at one point some DS ltes had a recognised fault with the plastic hinges.

If it's out of warranty you've basically got two choice, buy a new case from ebay or similar (they do them in different colours), or use the nintendo help page to book it in for a repair - from memory it's about £50 and what they usually seem to do is replace it with a new one with warranty.

Thank you for the quick reply.
After I calmed down, clicked your link and had a google, I found an online shop selling 100% genuine nintendo pink cases for £11 shipped. With new buttons included. This should do the trick.

I was expecting an entirely different question :p

Yes, I thought that afterwards. LOL. Then I thought it would probably attract a bigger number of viewers anyway !

Thanks again guys, always reply on this place for help in pretty much anything.

I think if it was me i'd probably just buy a new one and sell the old one on ebay with the fault

Home contents insurance should cover it for accidental damage by a child :)

Assuming the excess isn't higher than the cost of the new DS,/repair and it doesn't affect next years premium...
Insurance claims for household items aren't generally worth it unless the cost of the items is well over the excess cost (the combined cost of the excess and increased premiums tend to make it cost much more over the mid to long term).

True....get her to break your telly as well:cool:

This is actually a known fault with a small percentage of DS's so don't be too hard on your little girl because the same thing happened to my mum and she never takes her DS anywhere just sits in the living room playing Brain Training over and over again. If it is under warranty contact Nintendo right away, you will be able to get a replacement. If it is out of warranty there are replacement cases on e-bay that you can pick up quite easily, though getting the DS into the case can be a bit fiddly, I thought I'd written a DS off doing it, but my friend managed to fix it (I'm pretty useless at fiddly DIY) though there's no soldering or anything like that to do.
