Ok so the wife wants an MX5 :O

Might be a bit much for a station car but then knowing how I tend to up spec stuff i'll probably drive off with an Exige!

How good are you with a spanner?

A level of talentness unknown to the human race until my birth. My father however is a little bit special ;)

I use to do all my own work in truth, but nowadays I can't be bothered and much prefer to pay a man, though I would be willing to have a play if needed.

DETAILS !!!!

Mk2, Twilight blue (dark blue), original hood, excellent bodywork apart from two scratches. 59K, Vreg (late '99), new tyres all round 6K ago, totally standard apart from a lockwood grille (looks v. good), and uprated HT leads. Had a Maj service on it when I bought it last Sept inc. cam-belt (600quid!). Probb looking to achieve 4.5K.

EDIT: By fully loaded I mean the biggest (16'?) alloys, full black leather, Nardi steering wheel, alloy kick plates, electric everything, central locking, etc etc...

Top little car and I love it to bits. Never drive the LCR in preference to this.

If you want to have some fun, Avoid the Mk2.5 VVT since its harder to tune, spend 5 - 6k on a mint 99 - 00 Mk2 throw 3k at it fit a supercharger or a turbo and enjoy an honest to god motoring experience.

Chuck that money on a turbo setup and you will be looking at 230bhp in a light car with fantastic chuckability :)

I know you've driven / owned some great metal but its the simple things that can make you smile the biggest sometimes :)

Mpg i got was erm, rubbish for such a small and light car, over 30mpg was impossible, more like 22 - sub 15.

Quote for troof.
Around town I'm averaging around 22mpg, on a run I'm lucky to get close to 30.
This is driving it fairly sedately, as well.
That's from a 1.8iS, by the way.

Is the mk2 different on fuel consumption compared to the mk1 then? I can easily get almost 40mpg without trying too hard. Certainly doesn't require having to drive frustratingly slow anyway.

It's only a 1.8 engine in a light car at the end of the day!

I would assume so, its a different engine in a different weight car with a pretty much different drive chain :)

I think the official figure for the Mk2 1.8 is around 31mpg combined, no idea what the mk1 figure is.
But, as said above, in reality, expect mid-20's and you won't be surprised by any nasty fuel bills. Well, you'll of had chance to brace yourself, anyway. :p
