I am 20 years old and have been driving as a named driver for 3 years on my parents insurance i am interested in getting this car insurance as my grandad has given it to me for my 21st, i have never had an accident and have had no criminal convictions.

I am in love with it!!!

What is a reasonable price for a quote do you reckon? I wont be driving it that much as i live and work in london and am not willing to leave it opn the street in london so would only drive it when i went back home. Would it be better to stay as a named driver?

i have never had an accident and have had no criminal convictions.

As far as I am aware, criminal convictions have no bearing on motor insurance, I think its more motoring related convictions such as speeding, due care etc.

I may be wrong though!

As for the price of the premium, I have not a clue, sorry. Phoned around for any quotes?

not really comparable but i am 22 with an 1977 Triumph Dolomite 1850 and it costs me £250 for the year with commuting.

No NCB (used on main car policy)

edit, forgot to mention 3000 miles and TPFT

seeing as unless your parents drive the car more than you; insuring under their name is fraud, I would reccomend getting real insurance.

Note that a lot of classic car policies do not amass NCB, and quite a few won't take people under 25.

Through a limited mileage policy, it could be as little as £400...

It is a question that nobody can answer for you - start calling insurance companies.

absolutely beautiful car you have there :) My dad has a 1969 MGB Roadster, 1970 Cortina MK2 1600E and an Anglia estate and when i turn 21 (8 days) i'll be able to drive the lot :)

You have the best grandad in the world. :D

I used Lancaster to insure my mk1, but I'm old and it cost me about £100 a year.

Anymore pics/details about the car?

I do have to add that it is stunning, MK1 escorts are beutiful, beutiful cars. Treasure it!

A few years back a year after I passed my test, me westy cost me 400 quids a year limited millage, so would expect it to be about the same.
My mark 2 scrote cost 209 quid a few months ago now i'm a bit older and been driving a few more years, although that included two fault claims and an sp30. 3k miles and track day cover.

Cracking car btw, not many mk1's in original black :D

Sometimes comparison sites will quote cheaper than direct, remember that. It makes no sense but happens.

i found that some places wouldent quote me direct but did quote through comparison sites.

When checking through all details were correct!

You jammy git :D

DONT CRASH IT!!! ;)

Classic car insurance is great, but they didn't seem to want to touch me till i was 25 years old.

I'm currently paying around £228.90 for a slightly modified Capri 2.8i with 2 years NCB @ 25 years old, limited to 3k miles a year, Fully comp.

They are really picky though as i tried to add a friend to my insurance for 1 day (promised him a go for his birthday) who has been driving 12 years, is 30 years old & has 7years NCB & they wouldn't touch him just because he was a labourer .

I'm getting quotes not much over £100 this year, that is insane considering i paid over £2000 to insure the same car TPFT 3 years ago.

Right for those of you who are interested its a 1300 super 1968, 4 door (wish it was 2 but hey ho), its been off the road for like more than 20 years and been garaged for 17 years. Just had a 1.6 litre TVR engine put in it with rally carb and K&N air filter for a bit of extra noise lol. Brand new racing suspension and disc brakes which is a massive plus i have to say. Doesnt have a dent or scratch anywhere on it, near perfect.

Cant see to get insurance for anything less than £700 which seems a bit steap and confused doesnt seem to like my number plate seems the car might be too old.

I was hoping to get something around the £400 mark as im only going to be using it for leisure purposes only.
