Hi peeps, as the title suggests im looking for a new TV to replace my 26inch Acer HD-TV. I run my pc through the TV as a secondary monitor using the DVI-D input, i find its great for streaming HD movies from my PC etc. Therefore with my new TV the DVI-D input is very important. Im wanting to upgrade to around 40inch, give or take, has to be LCD, and has to have HDMI aswell as the all important DVI-D input.

My budget is £750-£1000

Any ideas/Suggestions, i can't find any TV's with dvi-d input that are of a decent size :( ?

Thanks in advance guys n gals :)

Not got any suggestions on the TV, but HDMI is just DVI-D with audio, so an HDMI port with an HDMI to DVI cable would do the job just as well.

ahh i didnt realise that bud, so if i take my dvi-d lead from my gfx card and convert to hdmi, the quality will be the same? Thats excellent, thankyou very much :)

Yep, quality will be exactly the same.

That said, I doubt you'd notice a huge difference between DVI and VGA anyway.

Maybe not, but some (a lot) of TVs will not accept a 1080p signal over VGA. Also some TVs don't let you use 1:1 pixel mapping with VGA. It would be better all round to use a DVI to HDMI cable, they are only £5 :)

If you are set on getting an LCD then look at the Sony KDL-40V3000 (~£700) which I have and can easily recommend to anyone, or the slightly better Sony KDL-40W3000 (~£950).

Was not aware of those issues over VGA, I'm actually looking at getting either the V3000 or the W3000 in the near future myself. Do either of those suffer from those VGA issues?

I have my HTPC connected via VGA, so I'll be needing to use DVI to HDMI like the OP if they do :)

Thanks.

depends upon the manufacturer, and also the particular model. My samsung F86 will quite happily take 1080p over vga. But not all 1080p samsungs do

Conversely, hardly any toshibas take 1080p, last time i looked they all had a maximum res of 1024 x 768 over vga.

Sony have a new W4000 out and the sony boys seem to rate it very highly, and sometimes over the flagship X-series. Check it out.

It's not so much an issue but rather just the way some TVs are. You are better off using DVI/HDMI really, as many screens will only do 1:1 pixel mapping (called full pixel on Sony sets) when using HDMI. My DVI/HDMI cable is 3M long and was just £4.50 so it's not like there is a problem doing it this way anyway :)

The highest resolution the V3000 with accept over VGA is 1360x768 while the W3000 accepts a full 1980x1080.

I own this TV and its a cracker, best LCD Ive owned. I have a xbox 360 (non elite) over vga, a wii over component and a ps3 over hdmi. The PQ is top draw, no ghosting in games, no judder. I love being able to callobrate all the connections individually. I will say that SD is not all that hot but then again Ive not seen a plasma or lcd that gives crt quality sd so far. HD is top draw and blu ray movies are to die for.
