drinking from the bathroom tap?

Hmm, I don't actually know whether we have one tbh, we got a new water system fitted about 5 years ago though but I'm no expert so will get someone else to take a look incase there is a rat!

Turn off the mains and see if the cold water still runs, used to take ages to drain the cold tank down.

Ive designed hundred's of hot and cold water systems and I can tell you that the water in the bathroom tap is exactly the same as the kitchen, its just direct from the mains and boosted if needed.

99/100 Cold water tanks are only used for rain water collection etc, that tank you see in your loft is a mavity fed hot water system.

In summary: Drinking water from the bathroom is fine.

depends on the house, most modern houses will be absolutely fine.

Yup, generally the tank in the loft is just to allow a reservoir for the hot water tank (and keep it's pressure up without needing a pump).

However, I wouldn't like to bet on it always being done that way, especially if the plumbing was done by a bodger.

If you've got a combi-boiler all cold water should be mains

If not check (maybe mains stopcock off, then check if you can still get a flow of water for a few mins (this maybe water stored in a tank coming through with mavity on its side)

Worst water i drank from .......... Many yrs ago i best add so i'm still alive n kicking (just)

Sanitary towel/dead pigeon/dead mouse and assorted insects

Can understand how they all got there except the towel !!!! wtf was woman doing or even thinking !

Ciao

Yet again...cold water does not come from a tank, its from the mains, jeez, google it or ask a plumber if you dont belive me

Why on earth would one have a cold water tank when its gets piped straight into your house??????

Tanks are for hot water (dont drink from this tap unless you have a new boiler which heats water on the fly and therefore it too is also fresh from the mains )

Close thread.

Some do. Get over it.

In my house (22 years old) the bathroom sink tap is mains, however the bath tap is from a cold tank.

This can easily be tested by stopping the water flow with your thumb. From a thank like the hot it's very easy to stop. From the mains, you get wet.

mattyfez - there is such a thing as a cold water tank hence he reason for this discussion.

i have it stuck in my head from a early age that i cant drink water from the bathroom sink or the bath taps.

i only use the bathroom taps for showers/baths etc and my 3 fishtanks that are right next door with a lot of water conditioner, my only complaint is the ph is lower than the downstairs taps.
