Hi all

I am thinking about upgrading my NEC MultiSync LCD20WGX2 Pro 20.1 to a 24inch monitor the only problem is that I want something that is going to be just as good but bigger?

What monitor would you recomend, I use it mostly for gaming and its great. I was think about the Hazro HZ24W as it uses the same S-IPS tech?

Any help would be great :D

Yup, the Hazro is the only 24" S-IPS available at this time in the UK. The NEC 24" IPS screen is US only for some strange reason.

They're mostly all the same LG.Phillips panels though (NEC have some customised polariser on theirs however). You should be aware of the current issues though, which is that DPMS doesn't work in Vista currently, but I am accustomed to using the power button when I leave my desk for extended periods.

surely an extra 4 inches and a bigger resolution is worth it? I've been pondering the NEC vs the Hazro and I'm fairly convinced the bigger screen will be worth it.

Any thoughts?

Well if it's a question of size, I've got 20 or 21" screens at work. Personally I would say the extra 4" is worth it :) I suppose you could nip to a local shop, if there is one, and examine some 24" screens to get an idea of size?

If it's a question of possibly losing a tiny bit of quality, I can't say. I've never seen the infamous NEC that you have :)

20WGX2's viewing quality is unbeatable for consumer screens. I wouldn't do it unless you really need the extra resolution.

Hmmmm well maybe I should wait until there is screen that’s just as good but 24inch........has anyone moved from a NEC 20WGX2 to a 24inch? I want a bigger screen but would be disappointed if quality was worse in games and windows.....

There is no 24" as good as the NEC... you will be dissappointed no matter what you buy... that is until NEC decide to release a 24" version of the AS-IPS panel. Sad, but true.

Care to elaborate? i was keen on the NEC 24" but not available in Europe. Bought the Hazro, it's a very nice screen but i've not been floored by it from my previous Dell 2407 (revision A2). I use it mostly for photography and calibrate my screen using a Huey Pro.

Of course you get the IPS vs PVA effect but i look head on 99% of the time so it's not a big issue for me. I was expecting perhaps more accurate colours or finer pitch or something. Not sure, it's nice, but subjectively speaking, as good, perhaps a little better than my previous Dell - which i get the feeling i got a good unit as my friend's A1 revision was absolutely dreadful!

There is no NEC 24" AS-IPS panel... so until they release one the 20.1" is the best thing we have. imo of course. :)

Ive gone from the NEC to a 24" Hyundai and apart from the size difference which is a bonus, everything else is worse. Its not too bad, but there are things that if you look hard enough then you will be dissapointed.

Blacks, Backlight bleed, Inverse Ghosting and i miss that glossy screen :(

rma'd my wgx2pro as it had dust/moisture behind the screen. chap on the phone said it could'nt be repaired or replaced as they ar'nt making them anymore. offered a refund or an "upgrade" to a 22wmgx so i went with the offer of the sidegrade/downgrade.

quite suprised at the quality of it really sure it's no ips panel (being a tn panel) but after a bit of fiddling setting up the colours i've got it very close to my old wgx2pro. on arrival it defaulted to 1920 mode which meant it was very blurry (oh no what have i done moment this is worse than my dell tn) but after setting the display props correctly it's just as sharp as the old ips if not sharper and blacks a very good and of course no ghosting in games unlike my old one.

colour banding is a bit worse but good considering it's tn i guess the only downer is the tn vertical angle which means the top is always a hint darker than the bottom. overall quite happy with it, and if this goes bad i'll get another new one rma'd :)

i spose a real upgrade would be a 22 wgx with faster response less ghosting and no dust in the screen issue don't think they exist though.
