Intel P45 chipset official debut today

Had a GA-EP45-DS3 on order but delivery date now back to early July, so I've taken a punt on the MSI P45 Neo-F. Just been and picked it up now, I have a nice E7200 for it, will report back.:D

the neo3-fr has a parallel printer port on it:( could fit about 4usb connections on in place of that:( big turn off!

their highend board is harsh pricing at £141:( nice about this tho: "P45 Diamond comes with a high-end Creative X-Fi Xtreme Audio card."

The P45 Neo3-FR still only has a 4 pin CPU plug tho.

Can't see any reason why they can't put an 8 pin plug on all these boards these days.

didnt know that:( lots of psu's use 8pin plugs now, looks like that neo3 board is definately a board for the oldies.

I can only see myself buying an Abit/Asus/Dfi P45 tbh, the other brands arent up to the standards of these brands imo.

I'd wait to see the overclocking results before deciding that. Plenty of people still buy £100 p35 over £110-£120 x38 boards and for good reasons.

Yes difficult to sell unless performance is great as price wise they are competing the x38 boards which offer more features but performance is the key.

Yeah all true I was looking at it from non overclockers pov;)

Whens the new X4500 Graphics IGP coming to laptops? Seems to be much faster than the X3100 which is what's in most notebooks at the mo. Need a nice cheap laptop to play with DirectX10 on the move. (The X3100 does this but only supports OpenGL 1.5)

ahhh, this 8 pin CPU cpower connector.............I`m considering buying one of these new Asus boards, willit be ok with an older 4 pin from my not THAT old PSU?

You don't need to use the 8pin but according to my Abit manual it is recommended for the 240VA protection limits!

Rob

yeah, it will work but its recommended getting an 8pin. I have an enermax 600w sli atx 2.2, mine has 2*4pin connectors that connect together to form an 8pin. a lot of the new psu's like corsair vx psu's have a single 8pin.

Cant believe msi have produced such an old spec'd board, i dont know a single person who still have a parallel port printer! Surely they can afford £30 for a usb inkjet printer?

I need a parallel port for my vfd, it may not suit you but will be an advantage for many other people like me.

Anyone had a product matrix for the Gigabyte boards ? I'm totally lost :-)

P45-DS3 - no RAID
P45-DS3R - RAID+eSATA+TPM+Dolby HomeTheater
P45-DS3P - RAID+eSATA+TPM+3rd crossfire slot+LEDs+reset button+Dolby HomeTheater+heat pipes

I'm guessing that Dolby HomeTheater is Dolby Digital Live which allows you to output 5.1 from games into SPDIF? Like soundstorm did. Useful feature but i'm planning on using HDMI in the future which means it will go through my ATI graphics card :( Which i'm guessing doesn't support it.

P43? I'm guessing it's P45 but with only a single PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot.

WHY??? if anything the new P45 boards should have more discrete chipset cooling solutions as the die has shrunk from the old P35 chipset to a much cooler running 65nm core size. huge cooling like that is really wasted, but i guess less informed people would believe the motherboard is the bee's knees with a cooling setup like that

It may look a bit extreme, but it will help with big overclocks while not using active cooling. As a person now craving some silence over an uber-overclock, I can appreciate this (though I still won't buy a Gigabyte!)

I have read a few articles and P45 chipset is around 5 to 10oC increase over P35 chipset. So there is a need ;)
