Can anyone advise? I erroneously wrote the passenger name as "Chris Phillip" instead of "Chris Phillips" whilst booking a plane ticket. How much of an issue could that be with security? It costs £80 to change the name with Ryanair! (outrageous)

Pay the £80. It's your fault, not theirs.

I seriously hate it when people make useless posts like this... it helps no one and does even remotely answer what the OP is asking!

Anyways I think it will be alright - I believe the £80 is for completely changing the name for a different passenger, but they have to stick to that even for small changes. My Mum's name varies been Mina and Meena and it has never been a problem :)

I wouldn't bother. Similar thing happened to me - I received a cheque from the post office, my surname was almost NOTHING like my actual surname. It had a few Ks in in and some random vowels. I just gave it to the cashier with my details she looked at it and cashed it.

He asked how much of an issue it would be with security. In truth, it depends who you'll be dealing with on the day. Which airport will you be going from Chris?

I bought a ticket for a friend in Denmark to fly from CPH to Newcastle and Spelt his second name Grimsted instead of Grimstad and they said it was fine. This was Cimberair. Not sure with Ryanair.

I cannot see any mention of "how much of an issue it will be" in your reply

You just told him to pay it because it was his fault... if you had recommended he pay it because of the risk factor then it would have been different. So, your post can still be classified as useless because it helps him in no way what so ever!

I doubt very much they will notice, I done it before, but the tickets hadn't been issued yet, only the receipt they changed the names free.

My dad once booked a plane ticket with my name down as "Benjamin" instead of my actual first name. (Benjamin is my second name, which I am usually called) I got on fine.

My dads name is Lawrence but they somehow managed to put Laurence, not one eyelid batted as said, this was pre-911 days though.

You're right, i may have sounded harsh in my first post. I didn't realise the ticket was only £43, I just hope for the best yet plan for the worst and in this situation I would probably risk it, but a ticket over £100 etc, i wouldn't. Although last time i flew with BA, they got my surname - firstname the wrong way round :P Got through fine, but that's a lot different to a spelling mistake. As i said before, it all depends on who you're dealing with on the day.

just chance it, if anyone notices then make out like you didnt know and blame someone else for the mistake :D

They always totally misspell my girlfriends name (in fairness she does have a silly last name), they've never questioned it once. I'm pretty sure actually then when they're studying the ticket for the few seconds they look at it that they're just checking the dates/flight to make sure it's valid, not comparing the names between passport and ticket.
