Samsung Series 5 LE32A559P4F 32" True HD Freeview LCD TV

Honestly I would rather eat my face than pay £630 for that, considering you can get a panasonic 37 inch PX80 plasma for just over £600.

The panasonic will be far superior in every sense, unless you intend to use it as a monitor connected to your pc.

Can I ask what's lead you to choose this TV and what you've going to be using it for?

1080p on a 32" seems like extreme overkill unless you are going to be using it as a monitor.

Thanks for your replies.

It'll be for my htpc which I also use for gaming, and a bigger TV wouldnt fit in my living room..........well of course it would fit in the room but I don't want anything bigger because the room's not that big.

Oh, and on the subject of price, OC's about £120 too high with theirs.

Ahhh right ok, definately go for a small 32inch LCD set then.

Check out the sonys, samsungs, toshibas, or even panasonics. But the panasonics are quite dear.

Build quality on the Samsungs gets slated on AVForums doesn't it?

Can I ask how big the room is?

I only sit about 6 foot from the TV and I'm not really a big fan of massive TV's.

I'm surprised that they say that about the Sammys. I've got a 26" one that's a few years old now and it's a good build.

Which is the best 32" 1080p one then do you reckon?

I've got a 26" as well and I've not had any problems with it, but it's just a bedroom TV so I don't expect much of it.

However, I know the Sammy's are popular because people think they look nice in piano black (dust magnet I've since sound out) but I've never really felt the images have delivered and there are lots of people on AVforums who have niggles with them.

Can't advise on the best 32" I'm afraid as at that size I tend to think that there isn't much difference in picture quality. You just want something that avoids smearing.

its a 206 page thread, with the newest stuff last, so start from the back and work backwards

but tell these people their samsung sets are of good quality

Cheers for that. Makes for good reading.

I don't think it necessarily puts me of buying another Samsung though. That thread's for a different range of screens and I'm sure this happens sometimes.

Nevertheless, I have begun to research other sets, like this one;

Any one have any opinions on LG sets?

Look on avforums mate, its much busier that the AV section on here

regarding Samsungs. you'll see its not just one model. The F86 (previous model) and the M86 (model previous to that) have a similar list of faults

If you get a good samsung TV, your fine. But they have such poor QC theres a high chance you'll get one with a fault samsung refuse to acknowledge exists or attempt to fix. It's worth noting as well that samsung UK dont have any technical staff. Just customer service staff. They just contract out repair work to third parties who get fed up of being sent out to attempt to repair samsung TVs that they just make worse because the faults are inherant to the range.

But as i said, read up on AV forums. Ive got all this info from there.

That's a shame. The LE32A559P4F looks like a good option looking at specs, price, even does 1080p through VGA.

This thread has been discussing the series 5 sammys and it seems that they're really good, although some people are having issues with a buzzing sound and 360's connected via component, and that the picture quality is excellent.

The LG one isn't 1080p so I'm discounting that one.

This panasonic looks good but is more expensive.

There's a Sharp one too but I don't think it's much good at displaying text as a pc display. It also can't do 1080p over VGA.

There's a Sony KDL-32W4000U that looks to have great picture quality but it's so new I can't find any reviews, it's more expensive and I don't like the design either.

It's all very confusing!

Don't discount a TV because it's not 1080p, unless you are going to be using it as a desktop monitor, especially at 32". You'll struggle to get the difference between 1080p and 720p ubless you are about 2 feet from the screen. Besides, some of the best TVs in the world at 720p.

Yeah, I really want 1080p for gaming and for the extra desktop space.

Just make sure you go and see it and demo it properly before you by.

Review sites exist to make advertising cash, not to give you good reviews; hdtvorg recent put out a review for the new sammmy's and someone noticed it was a cut and past from the previous gen review, and in one place they had even failed to change the model number.

Samsung reviews willl always be pretty good from random sites as samsung will give them a nice amount of money then advertise on their site. Samsung have turned into a great marketing machine, and every tom dick and harry want their piano gloss bezeled screens in their front room.

But the one area where they really loose out to other sets is the actual picture quality. You can spend your hundreds or even thousands on a tv bcause of a crappy review site, but if you did then I would call you a 'plonker'. It's like buying a new car because trusted reviews said it is amazing 5*, and as it has trusted in the name then it must be trusted ;)

I was just having the same conversation with a collegue! He was saying exactly that.

I would go and have a look at the Samsung, Panasonic and the Sony ones I think. He also recommended a store that seems to be good at setting them up so you get a good comparison.

The git also said I should get a projector, as my living room ceiling needs re-plastering anyway, so that's gone and thrown a massive spanner in the works! I wonder what Mrs Wolvers would think about that? :p
