Our Akita Puppy

very cute man...

well let me tell you something, we are in food shortage in the world, and people will do anything to get their hands in your pockets. Its time to feed your dogs raw meat ,

if you know what you mean :P

I left a box of tissues on the side, went upstairs for 30 seconds and this is what I was greeted with:D

Haha love it! Brilliant picture. Love the way hes still stood there staring at it like its going to repair itself or something.

:D

Just been looking through those pics. From a mile, you can tell it was either an Akita or a Husky, as the lead it always straight :p

Love the tissue one and the way he's got one in his mouth :D

Lovely dog. We've got a Siberian Husky that is getting on for Akita sized (not having any of these scrawny ones).

Is it ripping up all your furniture yet? :) I would love a Husky but the amount of exercise they need is mental! Can't let them off the leash either? :(

Oh and the fur is a killer, in the picture above you see all that fur in the bottom left, you get that at least once a week in summer, it's hell.

They need a big open spaces and quite a bit of exercise. And the personalities of each dog can be very interesting, ours loved fast food lol.

But he was very loyal and protective, affectionate and always fun to play with. I wouldn't however recommend them as a first dog as they can be quite complicated and hands on to look after.

And they all are beautiful :D

The fur has been the same for a the last couple of weeks, he usually gets a quick brush every day, but at the weekends he get a proper comb, and that fur was about the same amount each time.

Ours has a thing for fruit and veg, he absolutley loves carrots, especially frozen ones

To be honest I thought it was a bit of an overstatement about them not been good for first timers, and thought "how hard can it be?" but he's so strong willed, has such a dominant temprament, and is so powerful. my parents had a labrador when I was a child and this is the first dog I've owned, and after having him for 6 months I can see why they aren't recommend for first timers.

My god, he's huge. Lovely dog, but I could never own one that big - he'd destroy our house.

To be honest he's been fine round the house, the only damge he's caused, apart from a shredding a couple of boxes of tissues, is chewing one corner of the skirting board in the kitchen, which you can see in the pic with the tissues.

Haha love it! Brilliant picture. Love the way hes still stood there staring at it like its going to repair itself or something.

:D

It was great, he just stood there looked at me then pretended to just notice the tissues as if to say "how'd that happen?" but he forgot he'd still got a bit of the box in his mouth :D

Old thread 'n all that but here is a pic of the boy as he is now.....

An 11 week old Huskey x Akita. His mother died when he was 3 days old and the whole litter was hand reared by a colleague at the animal charity the g/f and I volenteer at.

They spend pretty much all day wrestling, obviously the bg fella is stronger but if he stops for even a second the little 'un is straight on top of him. It wears us out juist watching them :p

That's one big dog.

My cousin has one which he named Zeus, but he's better known as Baskerville because he howls at night o.o

(The dog howls. Not my cousin.)

i would love to own a dog and the pics in this thread are wining me over
only thing is i dont like the idea of them crapping everywhere inside my house

i know they can be trained to go outside but still there will be a period when they wont be trained :(

wordy I will hate you until the day I get my own Akita..my GF hates dogs as much as my family does..what to do.. :(

Look at it this way. You'll probably end up with a new girlfriend in a couple of years anyway, but the dog will last 10, the choice is obvious.

How are Akitas with toddlers and novice owners? Or, to put it another way, the wife wants a Lab, I would like a more intelligent dog but have no experience of them - what do we do?

I think I've answered my own question :(

Stunning. Akitas really are beautiful looking. I have no idea what their temperament is like, would appreciate it if you could tell me a little.

My workmate has an Akita called Bear. I never saw it as a pup but when I did finally get to see it I understand why he called it that, the thing is HUGE and is as tall as me when on it's hind legs (5'8") I've never seen it walk properly either, it bounces every where, lol.
