Can anyone identify this reptile?

I was in the west of Ireland recently in a very, very remote place. We found this dried up reptile in the bog:

Any ideas what is it and what it's doing there? It was found in an area where there are no houses for a several mile radius, and these are not native to Ireland!

Not sure what it is. As for what it was doing there, not much I'd say, just decomposing!

You'd be surprised what's out there and what is rare/previously undiscovered.

Also it could be an escaped pet or something..

That is a smooth newt, which are commonplace in Ireland, and also a protected species.

I was ignorant in assuming that it was a reptile when it was infact a Newt. The question had already been answered twice. It just seemed strange that you should ask when I ovbiously had the answer already. Why else would you ask?
