Age of conan - World of warcraft

There are no "good" or "bad" guys in WoW. The orcs have a very noble and proud story. The undead are only "bad" guys because the "Good" guys refused to accept them. The taurens are "bad" because they felt bad for the Orcs.

We consider the Alliance the "good" guys cause the faction contains the Humans, whom we obviously identify with. Funny though, the Human lore is the most corrupt, power hungry and generally damn mean.

Not dissagreeing with you about you AoC faction point, just thought i'd slip in that technically, the same could be said for WoW.

The story of Thrall escaping from Durnholde, fantastic. :)

Enjoyed Caverns of Time - Durnholde even more because of the nice little story.

WoW is still the benchmark mmo. Cant see anything beating it imo. FYI I quit wow 2 years ago and played AOC in beta. I've dropped all mmo's sick to the back teeth of 'em until someone comes along and changes the model.

I have not had a single problem other than some item stats not working, unlike WoWs release with loot lag lasting for 3 to 4 minute at a time every time you looted which is still in game at times. Blizzard is still trying to transfare people of overpopulated servers cause they can't support the player load, on the other side they have servers that are like ghost towns. I still remember +3000 ques to get onto my old server Bloodscalp. That lasted about a year till I rerolled onto a RP-PvP server. It took blizzard a year to do something as simple as lable a pvp server as RP. The real problem with AoC is on the client side with poeple trying to run the game with hardware that just can't run the game. A lot of people whos systems can run AoC are droping WoW. Mac user, kids and people with lower speced systems will stay at wow.

I love aoc.

Combat. I play assasin which means I can take on maybe 4 guys my level or slightly above or sometimes struggle to take 2 guys down because of the combat.

I start from stealth. Ambush - one combo and the guy is down. I gain some soul shards and im specced in healing (leeching) so i run right up to 3 mobs my level and kick in my first 2 leeches. I get a fatality (which is bloody awesome) on the 1st guy so gain damage bonus and obliterate the other 2 with half my health left due to leeches. :D

Or I can get spotted, 2 guys are on me with no shards and struggle to take them down.

Wow is too linear in its combat. Press button x and y and do this and thats about it. The combat in aoc keeps me on the edge of my seat all the time.

I leveled a few chars to max on WOW - and it took bloody ages and wasnt too much fun (except for my mage). AOC leveling is fun because all quests link to each other and you just have to do maybe 5-6 and you level. It slows down later on for sure but there is just about 0 grind up to level 50 where as in WOW grinding was a big part of levelling.

The graphics and animations are amazing. Calling my war mammoth still brings goosebumps :D seeing it come along, drop down and let me climb up. Its still in its imphancy and people are expecting a bit too much from aoc I think but the base is solid so im sticking with it for now.

whats the maximum level in aoc then?
and is there going to be dungeons/instances in it similar to wow, or even raids maybe?
ive read about the siege pvp stuff but unsure if thats all there is to do at maximum level. anyone here at max lvl and what are your experiences there?

Ot, itll take a while for wow to be knocked off top spot, myself log on wow regularly but its not for the game for pvp or pve its just a glorified MsN to me. but im still unsure whether to take the plunge with aoc, i tried guildwars but didnt really 'get it' didnt seem like anything to do it :p

The final release of AoC is completely differant from the Beta as many will back me up on, for some reason it feels like a completely differant game now. Im guessing the devs but a lot of backbone into the game before its final release.

I don't get this thing of wearing level 10 armour at 40, or all the armour looking the same... from 10-40 I replaced my armour around every 5 levels, each better than the previous armour I was wearing and each with a very individual look to it, and that was just light armour. If you were wearing lvl10 armour at lvl40 then you need to look around more, do the quest chains properly etc.

Look at the release of TBC, an expansion so should have been pretty bug free... yet the itemisation in that was borked and took a couple of months to fix by Blizzard (you had stuff like green lvl62 quest rewards with better stats than lvl70 epics).

Compared to WoW? well AoC has dungeons, it has raids, it has silly pvp minigames like CTF and Annihilation (see: arena) but then has the end game world PvP, which is kind of hard to do right now but a few months down the line will be immense to take part in. Does WoW have a tonne more polish? of course, but its not like AoC will never get there.

I'd love to get into a new MMORPG. However since EQ1 and FFXI I havent really been able to get into any of them. I played WoW to level 40 and I lost all interest, it just didn't do anything for me at all.

To me FFXI was the greatest MMORPG. It had lots of problems yeah, but it was also the most rewarding game I've ever played. I made some of the best friends online I've ever made and I'm still in contact with some of them now (from 2 years ago.)

I think the best thing about FFXI was the fact that it made people work together. The jobs where also very specific in needs, and while there was a very cookie-cutter type mentality in the game; if you actually did learn and do your job well, then you would be rewarded in frequent parties and gain popularity among players of your level.

I've been keeping my eye on AOC, but I must admit from what I've seen and read... it doesn't look like it'll be my cup of tea.

Yeah sorry shouldnt really comment on betas, but the game as a whole didnt offer anything different.

Heres my pennys worth.

When WoW came out I paid £30 for it, I played i and played it and couldnt stop playing it, I wanted to play and get everything done I could. it was £8.99 a month as well.

When Conan came out I paid £30 for it, I played it and then turned m PC off and watched some TV. it cost £9.99 a month as well. I dont find myself wanting to play it all the time.

Why the differences ? Well before any of these I played UO, i got ganked, my stuff stolen, and got pretty mad, but I still played it alllll the time so i ruled out the PvP.

AoC just feels not as complete as WoW was when it came out, im not going to compare then as they re now because WoW wins hand down, but it has had 3+ years to mature. I like the party system in WoW more, and where are the instances in AoC before level 35+ ??? It feels like a single player game. And yes I am in the OcUK guild on Dagon, so im not playing it single on purpose.

I will give it 60 days and see what happens, my advice to anyone would be play he WoW free trial, and play the AoC one if you can get it. See what you like but atm personally I won't be paying £10 a month to play AoC until they fix it and add more content.

Long story short WoWs £8.99 is a lot better value for money than AoCs £9.99

EDIT : The other thing that REALLY irks me, the AoC official forums can ONLY be seen by subscribers. Now atm im a subscriber so I can read it, but if you could see it as an outsider I dont think it would make you want to play the game. Something to hide because of all the criticism.

wow what a useless thread. blah blah blah. who cares make up your own minds, don't need to listen to imo .... may as well read reviews at least they actually talk about the games with a little more depth.
