Goalie involved in an accident yesterday has been charged with:

Two counts of causing death by dangerous driving
Drink driving
driving without insurance.

It's beyond me how these people can get behind the wheel, so the question is. If guilty what punishment will he get? Will they make an example of him or let him away with a driving ban?

I feel so sorry for the parents who lost their two boys.

I cannot understand how someone who earns the money he does hasnt got insurance. (not that it would have saved those kids, just says to me he has no regard for anybody else on the road)
I hope they throw the book at him.

I can't really add to that, its exactly what I would have said!

He should be made an example of :mad:

I don't know of any drink driver case where there has been a fatality that the driver has got away with a ban. I'd expect the guy to get around 10 years in total... so out in 5.

He'll need Johnnie Cochran to rise up from the grave to defend him if he wants to avoid jail....

He'll be looking at 5 years+ inside for that unless he has an excellent brief. 2 Years is the minimum sentence for that offence given the aggravating factor of driving under the influence.

He was coming back from Ipswich player David Norris' wedding in Bolton.

If the accident happened at 5:45 he must have been on the road for a good hour surely? What the hell was he thinking of?

There is no way he'll be inside for 5 years+ I don't think though - Lee Hughes was out in less than three years and he left the scene of the accident.

Heard about this first thing this morning on the news, Gutted for the parents the kids & the goalie.
All of us could kill somebody with our car one day, I myself was in my mates car when he ran this schoolgirl over. When I got out the car I picked up 3 of her teeth & her shoe & then walked up to her laying on the floor screaming, We were doing no more than 30 mph & she ran out in the road to avoid a lad grabbing her butt so we was not at fault.
Still I will never forget her head & body bouncing off the front near side of the car, Fortunetly she made a full recovery within a few weeks.

Storys like these bring it back to me & shouold be a Warning to All drivers.

R.I.P. to the lads :(

Are there any actual facts yet regarding how the goalkeeper was actually driving, or even how this incident happened?

He was driving on the motorway without insurance, was drunk and two kids have died.
I think thats enough facts for me.

Also hit them in their Toyota Previa in his Range Rover Sport in lane 2 which punted them off the road into trees.

I just cannot imagine how he could have managed that. Was he travelling at 'considerable speed'? Did the Previa pull out on him? There must have been quite a differential in speed to punt the Previa, a not exactly lightweight vehicle, off the road :(

Example sentence here:

http://www.cps.gov.uk/news/pressreleases/archive/2006/173_06.html

6.5 years for killing 1 person whilst 1.5 times over the limit.

Sentencing Advisory Panel Guidelines are:

The Panel recommends:

a short custodial sentence for an offence arising from a momentary error of judgment or short period of bad driving, where there are no aggravating features;

a custodial sentence of 2-5 years when the standard of the offender's driving is more highly dangerous, e.g. aggressive driving or greatly excessive speed, or when the offender has consumed alcohol or drugs;

a custodial sentence over 5 years, up to the maximum of 10 years, for the most serious offences, where the offender has driven with complete disregard for the safety of other road users and where other aggravating features are present.

Factors that would increase the seriousness of an offence include:

the death of more than one victim or serious injury to one or more victims in addition to the death;
failing to stop or falsely claiming that one of the victims was responsible for the crash; and
previous convictions for motoring offences, especially if they involved bad driving or the consumption of excessive alcohol before driving.

Sorry but what utter guff. The goalie had got hammered at a wedding and then driven home without insurance at about 4:30am. This is not comparable to your (assumingly sober) friend knocking over a child that runs out into the road.

Muncher, those guidelines are all well and good, but we all know that a '5 year' sentence often ends up turning into 2 years in prison.

How long are you going to carry this grudge and follow me around as I am getting pretty ***** off with it.
