hi all, i am running vista 32 bit with 4 gig of ram.i know it only uses 3 gig but what i want to know is if i go over to 64 bit and start using the extra gig will the pc perform better.the only reason i ask is that i remember reading somewhere that the 64 bit version wasnt as quick as the 32...

before installing vista x64 make sure you remove one of the sticks, then reinsert once installed.

sometimes with 4gig in whilst installing, it later throws a wobbly, randomly blue screening in normal use (even after sp1) that mght just be me tho

Article link to this, as I have installed with 4GB in and it has given me a few BSODs - i was thinking it's just the new RAM that might be broken.

Unless you buy or receive the x64 SP1 disc. I installed with 4GB with no problem because the fix is included.

i'll have a look later for you

this even happend with an integrated/slipstreamed sp1

there is another way around if you've allready installed with 4gig, basically take out one of the dimms and use it normally for a few days (run benchmarks, your usual apps and a quick blast with a few games) making sure to restart it a few times for it to get used to the new memory config, if that stops your bsod reinsert the other dimm and all should be fine, other wise i'd start inspecting any 3rd party 64bit firewalls and av software

Guys I was just wondering is this process still essential as I am probably gonna do a fresh install of vista tomorrow and I have 4GB of ram.

I have installed vista 64bit before without this update and with all 4 x 1GB sticks installed and never had a problem

:)
