Just had my latest copy of games(tm) delivered and some big games reviewed this month.

Metal Gear Sold 4 (PS3): Guns of the Patriots: 8/10 ~ the best playstation 3 exclusive to date - better than MGS2: Sons of Liberty, worse than MGS3: Subsistence
Race Driver: Grid (Multi): 8/10 ~ an impressive addition to a crowded genre
Age of Conan (PC/360): 8/10 ~ bloody, brutal, sexy and immersive, eventually
Haze (PS3): 5/10 ~ something does course between our veins when we play haze, but it's not nectar - it's the stinging sensation of disappointment
Ninja Gaiden 2 (360): 7/10 ~ predictable yet fun - DMC4 is the better game

Lego Indina Jones (Multi): 6/10 ~ great to watch, nowhere near as fun to play
Ninja Gaiden Dragonsword (DS): 8/10 ~ a great addition to to NGII
Target Terror (Wii): 4/10 ~ kitch appeal let down by technical issues
Soul Bubbles (Wii): 7/10 ~ charming but far too short
Boom Blox (Wii): 6/10 ~ plenty of control, little challenge
New International Track & Field (DS): 5/10 ~ unplayable events let down a polished title

Blimy, there you go. All lower scores than we might have expected (I'd rate Boom Blox much higher). Thought I'd share.

I think that the problem with MGS4 will be that although there are so many moves you can use and graphically it looks great it just doesn't look like much fun.

I would tend to agree with this opinion, while ninja gaiden has always boasted a fighting mechanic marginally better than DMC there should be more to these games than just fighting. DMC boasts a better storyline, characters and puzzles which just about pushes it above NG, not that NG isn't a fantastic series of games, i just find it strange that so few share my viewpoint.

It looks great fun to me and the online beta was excellent also, can't wait to get my hands on it tomorrow!

If the single player game play of MGS4 is half as good as the MGO beta and the storyline on par with its predecessors i won't be disappointed.

lmao, who reviews these games, Indy Lego is excellent, goes to show 1 person review isn't always what you'd expect when you try it yourself

What bugs me most is the scores, 6/10 would be a good enough score for Indy if they would use 5 as average, which it should be as its in the middle of 10.

This is why I prefer the 'out of 5' scoring method, 3 is average and either side of that is either really bad/poor or good/awesome.

What's the difference between a game rated 2 or 3 for example when using the 'out of 10' scoring system?

I've seen a couple of places give MGS4 an 8. Edge was another I believe.

Aye bit disappointing, would expect 10's across the board, so much and hype about it saving the PS3. Stuck it on the rental list.

Glad the Ninja Gaiden game for DS is getting decent scores, will stick it on order now.

Personally i hated number 3 and loved number 2.. so not sure how to take that lol

All a matter of a opinion really. I actually still don't know how I'd rank each MGS - each one was better or worse in some areas than the others.

Then why not have an out of three scoring system? 1 for bad 2 for average and 3 for good? The difference between the 2 and 3 out of 10 is that 3 is better! I prefer percentage myself, just differentiates more between titles. Of course the body of the review is the most important bit.

3's not a bad idea either, they should just have 'Buy/Rent/Pass' :D

When I used to review games and you typed up the review, then go and put the scores in... it was always a downer to writing the review.

Trying to rate something with numbers/letters is really hard and people will always question what made it that score or even percentage. Who am I to say what 90% means for a game?

I thinks pros and cons or a conclusion are the best for the reviewer and the reader.

Yeah I totally agree, the worst is reviews that rank graphics, sound, multiplayer, gameplay, longevity that sort of stuff. You see Wii games outranking 360/ps3 games in graphics or games like FM getting low marks for graphics when they're not the point. Just looks stupid imo. Pro's and cons are good. A number gives you a nice indication of the overall balance of pro's and cons. So for example a game rated 9 with a con of performance issues would mean that while it has performance issues it doesn't drastically affect the overall experience.

Playing snake in the beta was a taster as to how MGS4 would turn out gameplay wise. MGS4 IS GOING TO ROCK YOUR SOCKS!

MGS3 is my favorite in the series, will have to see if MGS4 is better. Gameplay wise, MGS4 looks to be one of the greatest games ever made..

Reviews are useless! All they do is start fanboy wars, review the games yourself instead of going by what other people say.
