best air cooler?

TT doesn't perform as well as the Noctua or TRUE.

From what I've seen the TRUE pips the Noctua just about but the Noctua is cheaper, and it comes with a very nice quiet fan already.

Have you seen the list for super PI? There are plenty of people getting very good results from the TT.

I'll admit it's a popular choice, a bit cheaper then the Noctua but it just doesn't cool as well as the Noctua or the TRUE.

If u are running a quad then Super PI is going to stress 1 core and therefore produces a lot less heat in comparision to prime95 or FoH I can super PI at a good 200 - 300 Mhz higher than I can run stable with a lot lower temps

I have a TRUE on one of my computers (with a noctua fan) and it really is an excellent cooler. Just hugenormous.

I also have a Zalman CNPS9700-LED in another computer, and this too is excellent. Cools excellently when on highest setting (my Opty 180@2520 idles around 30c) and is extremely quiet on the lowest setting.

For raw performance, though, you can't really go wrong with the Thermalright.

Agreed, but i still think it's a good indication that the TT is 'up-there' with the TRU.

Have they fixed the issues with the TRU - I.e., uneven surface and poor construction?

well the TT is a good cooler but in general if you look at the Q6600 database for example you will be hard pressed to get past 3.6ghz on a TT where as the TRUE can take you past 4ghz.. again this is somewhat down to the fans you mount..

I have built 4 rigs using TRUE and the construction of the heatsink itself has always been sound, the bases have ranged from poor to ok but I have always lapped both base and cpu as I havent been totally happy with them..

I would say if you are looking for a solid overclock then the TT is certainly an excellent buy and good value for money.. if you are looking for that extra 200 - 300 mhz then go for the TRUE but be prepaired to do some work if needed.. but then again if your aiming for 3.8ghz+ on air then you are more than likely thinking of going the extra mile anyways!

I'd personally opt for the Noctua.

Put it in a push-pull configuration (comes with the mounts, but you need to buy another fan) and it'd be pretty much unbeatable. :D

I have the TRUE with a Sharkoon fan attached. I lapped it when I got it as the base was pretty uneven.

I had an ACF7 Pro before, and tbh there is little difference in temps when idle. When load is applied, I see quite a difference to both cooling potential, and most importantly for me, noise.

The ACF7 Pro was really loud when it was at full speed, whereas I can run the Sharkoon fan on my TRUE at 1200RPM, which is virtually silent and keep pretty acceptable temps.

I would say the TRUE is a superb cooler, and it has much more potential if you aren't too bothered by system noise.

the problem is i have the XClio A380Plus case and i think the tuniq tower 120 would touch the 36cm fan on the side. is the hight the same as the Akasa AK-922 EVO Blue?

Just a suggestion but what I did to solve a similiar issue was mount the side 36cm fan on the outside of the door. Thus leaving more space inside. Okay not cosmetically brilliant but it worked !

Would just like to add the Thermalright IFX-14 to the mix, i'm running this with 2 x Panaflo FBA12G12L fans undervolted, nice and quiet and does 43deg on both cores at 100% load.

your sig is ridiculously large. i suggest that you change it before a mod does.
