Ok, here goes, AGAIN! :( Sorry about another thread, I've just been having thoughts left right and centre, I had really decided I wanted an FTO, but a few things put me off, seeing my GF in the back with her neck bent to sit comfily, thinking of taking her and her brother and sister to cornwall in the summer and every now and again was painful, even with midgets in the back it could be nasty, and in a safety side of me, the no airbags on most models really gets to me now.

So i've been having a rethink, not saying I WON'T get an FTO, but I think I need to look at more practical options at this point in time, too, I'm guessing the main Specs are airbags, back seats where you don't need to be a contortionist, not sluggish (ie: 0-60 8sec at max) nice sounding with little/no work, ideally 3 door.

One thought that popped into my head was a 3-Door Focus ST170, but Fox branded it all show no go!

Right now I'm just open to any ideas, anything and everything, ideally 5k max budget, hit me with what you've got? :D

Clio 182? has some space in the back at least and is a great car to drive 3 door sounds alright under 5k sorted.

Hmm, can't see any 182's at 5k, let alone under :( Ideal price is going to be about 4k, but obviously 5k will be max I can go to!

Anyone else? Any Golf GTI / Leon etc worth a peek in this budget bracket?

rear headroom i find isnt much of a problem in a 200sx. If your passengers are willing to put up with restricted rear leg room for the odd occasion you go down to cornwall then go for it. I have to take my GF and her sister down to kent next week. Guess we will see how her sister feels after the 230 mile journey.

Ahh ok, well I was looking at 200SX's before FTO's and they looked a tad cramped in the back for her 6"3 brother, so could be back to some kind of hot/warm hatch i'm thinking!

Current possible list:

Focus ST170?
Clio 172/182 (Unsure on the big differences between the 2)! :)

10ps and an extra exhaust pipe off the top of my head, i'm sure there's many more differences though:p

You'll get a Leon Cupra for £5k. 180BHP 1.8T.

Have spent a bit of time looking around tonight, and the Leon Cupra is actually looking a good option! Seem to be able to get a very nice Leon Cupra, or a Rough Cupra R, maybe at 5.5k :(

The question is, would I get an empty feeling if I got the normal Leon Cupra? As much as it is a good car, nice 1.8 20V Turbocharged engine etc.. would I be missing that special "something" going for the 2nd from top? I know with the Civic I got the 1.6 Sport instead of the Type-R, and do regret that in a way, i'm just worried about maybe doing the same again!

Anyone with an LCR, LC or who has had both, any input on the main feel of difference between the 2? I'm guessing an LC with remap would see about 195/200hp? Any ideas on torque figures from remaps?

Cheers :)

The LCR is a very very nice car and fairly different to the Cupra. But with your budget you can't afford an LCR and the Cupra is a nice substitute.

Mondeo ST220? Some bargains can be had and correct me if i am wrong 0 - 60 in circa 6.8 seconds?

Edit: Just checked parkers and its circa 7seconds - cant remember where i read they did 6.8 seconds?

A standard LC will get you to 60 in just over 7, and if you choose to remap thats an extra 35 bhp for starters. Good cars.

Thanks for that, Skii :)

Yeah, Octavia or ST220 might also be an idea, as long as i'm avergaing out at ~30ish mpg i'll be happy really, some spirited driving, some casual.

I've just had another ball throw to me, although I'm really not sure yet, the main reason I'm able to do this right now is that I'll be getting an inheritence in a few months that will allow me to clear my finance and sell the Civic without (hopefully) too much of a loss! (Price check on 54 plated 04 Civic Sport 1.6 VTEC w/ 23k anyone? :D) and I was chatting with my mum this morning, who wants a new golf, trying to explain to her the merits of getting a 56/07 plater and/or a leon instead! Then explained I was looking at LC's now instead of FTO's, much to her pleasure!

So i got an offer from my Dad to sub me on the finance clearance until the money comes through, which was really nice of him, but he also wants me to buy his car, 02 Focus 1.8TD Zetec (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=24038 I believe) for £2000, which whilst being a nice car, just isn't what I was really after right now, especially with the current soaring Diesel prices!

Bit of a dilemma, I'm actually going to go test drive a Leon today as I'm off with with hayfever related throat problems so working in a call centre is short cry from impossible right now! But i'm guilt ridden in my head, as much as he'd offer the loan consolidation without forcing me to take the focus, and the money will be paid STRAIGHT back to him when I get it, not some charity case! But i'd have a terrible sense of guilt borrowing his money and then turning down his offer and plumping for a Leon.

Kinda in 2 minds right now on WHAT to do! :(

What you want, is a Fiat Coupe.

You will be amazed how much interior space there is. It even has a big boot.

Plus you get a car that is in the same style as a FTO.

Probably not in the ST220 I average 27mpg pushes up to 31 on a long run but thats going at a steady 70. When pushing on be lucky to get 20mpg.
