So left at 2pm today for home from Stoke, went there to visit some family with my whole family in my car as my dad CBA taking his, apparently the journey is too long for him to drive (!).

Anyway, Got back at about 10 to 6 (in boiling heat so had to have AC on pretty much all of the distance but even still managed to rack up 445 miles without going near the fuel warning light!)

Anyway... Upon exiting the M27 towards the Fareham exit and joining the A27 I decided to go a slightly longer (but quicker) way round as I knew what traffic is like this time of the day on a weekday as I used to commute home this way daily up until recently when I changed jobs so my hours changed. My old man asks how come we're going the long way round wasting time and I respond by saying it's quicker because you are not stuck in rush hour home-time traffic for 3-4 miles on approaching and through Fareham road which would easily add 30~ mins on top. He could not understand how a longer distance route could possibly be quicker...

He mentioned that he has been driving in Gosport for 18 years and "don't you think I know the roads round here?".

Not only did we not have to wait in any traffic but also had a much more comfortable drive from there onwards going through the beach area of Lee-on-Solent with fresh breeze and a constant speed getting home earlier than I anticipated before leaving stoke and my old man didn't say a word after that whilst now acting like nothing ever happened :p

What is it with dads and being passengers in their kid's cars thinking they are always right then acting like it never happened when they were not?

Never drive parents who also drive I say! I was tempted to say if he said another word I'd stop the car and he'd have to walk home ! ;)

Just wanted to get that off my chest!

My Mum is the only person I know whos managed to puncture both front tyres just by hitting a kerb. Shes also the only person I know who got caught by the same set of speed cameras in the same day, once on the way to where she was going and once on the way back.
And she slags off my driving! :D

My mum thought my Lexus drove itself. She got hissy with me when I shouted at her to shut the hell up yapping so I could hear the nav instructions. Her response: "Why do you need to hear it, I thought it drove the car for you".

No lie.

No dont worry about it, I regularly take the pee out of her.

And now im old enough to drive her about I do the old "When your in my car you let me drive my car how I want, or you can get out and walk" routine which really winds her up.

Failing that I just ask her how many points shes got on her license compared to me. :p

What would you do if she actually did get out and started walking though? it would be an "I didn't expect that!" moment I guess :p

HAHA I'd let her, thing is she's usually in my car cos she needs a lift somewhere, and is usually running late (her fault not mine) so she just sits there "humpfh"ing instead while I giggle.

That's ok I guess but you never know though, the older they get the angrier they get!

my dad always think he knows best, he was horrified that i found a quicker way to his work place even though he was working there for 25 years! Also there's been times where he's told me to do stuff and if i did do them i would have been in a bad situation. I have now laid down the law, it's be quiet or GTFO

Ooooh Dads written his car off twice. Hes actually better than Mum for comments, but when he does I do the "how many cars have you written off compared to me?"

I was a difficult child :D

I get shouted off the rents for driving in a 30 zone doing 30 because they can't see my Speedo its SEEMS im going too fast.

this gets me as well, i was doing 25 in a 30 zone and he slow down its 30 along here and your doin 40, i was like WTF!? Surely he must know what 40 feels like!

I get this because my Mum can see my speedo, but due to parallax error it appears to her as if im doing 35ish when im actually bang on 30... She fails to realise ive only just got my license and im not going to jeopardise it for the sake of 5mph.

When i get my new car with digital speedo i suppose this will stop happening. :)

or the light will catch it and make it look as if you are doing 88mph :o

Given that once upon a time I wrote off my Mothers XR2 fiesta on Mothers Day, its nice that she now considers me to be a good driver! - Its taken a profession & many many years to undo the damage I did to my driving reputation in the eyes of my parents after that one!

My mum always decides to do a running commentary of the traffic from the left at a junction, "Cars still coming, still coming, nope still coming, don't go yet there still coming, nothing coming, oh wait more cars coming" I'm like STFU I can see out the window myself you silly old bint! :p

My mum refuses to get into a car with me, which I find quite funny, i'm a safe driver.
Yeah I occasionally make other drivers, and passengers **** a brick but I know what i'm doing.
