Daft Punk

Daft Punk are great but Air are even greater.

I'd agree with that. I think I'm about the only person who I know that doesn't worship Daft Punk, I don't get what everyone sees in them. Air are a brilliant band :)

I'm failing to see where the comparison is even coming from, apart from the fact they're both french!?

Pocket Symphony was a pap album.

Nah it is because they're both French. Both Air and Daft Punk are commonly referred to when people talk about the French Touch, along with David Guetta, Dimitri from Paris, Etienne de Crecy, Bob Sinclar, etc...

There's a vast difference between some of the artists clubbed together under the French Touch title... Laurent Garnier and Modjo both fall under it yet they're massively different in terms of musical genres.

Pocket Symphony was ok-ish but Moon Safari was one of the best albums of all time.

im guessing youve not seen them live :D i know people who had somehow never heard of daft punk but since seeing them live worship them like the gods that they are :p

on the subject of french bands has anyone seen "fancy" ? theyre like a french queen/scissor sisters . caught them supporting justice and they where an awesome live act despite looking like total freaks

I gave homework a listen to recently and was really dissapointed. Unless you are absolutely off your face I refuse to believe anyone can enjoy such lifeless build ups such as on 'Phoenix' and 'Rock N' Roll'.

Alive 2007 starts off pretty poor but picks up soon and remains decent throughout, however :)

Don't worry I'm not a fan of homework either. Normally skip most of the tracks. Discovery is the best, Human After All had the potential but it was just loops over and over. Alive 2007 is great but I still love the coachella bootleg.

Going to have to agree that discovery is the best. Even then, it has a repetitive song (Crescendolls) which is ten times more fun and full of life than some of those on Homework.

... really gutted about it actually! :(

im not into discovery at all still a great album mind but too "pop" for me just like justices album was last year

homeworks the best. i reckon i could listen to it on repeat forever. infact wouldnt like to know how many times ive listened to it before. probably be a world record :/

also the amount of people its influenced is just ridiculous . and youve got to remember that in 96/97 no one had heard much like it.

Homework is the album that started it all. Without it Daft Punk would be nothing. But back then all they had were decks. Now they have Ableton.

It's not what Daft Punk are. You will get the die hard fans that will say else wise but I fail to see how Homework has any similarities with the other albums. You can look back on that album and picture that time but it's not a album that ages. Discovery still sounds fresh to this day.

My personal view on Homework is that it's pretty dark and ghetto. I can't jump around with a massive smile on my face. That's not right!

Homework is an immense album that hasn't aged one bit. Too much criticism of a perfect album in this thread :P Alive 97 is not that far behind it as well - makes me want to go mental!

man after my heart :p

maybe my 2 favorite albums those 2 are

alive 97 is stupidly good. just a shame they where never allowed to put the full live show on it with the covers etc they did live at the time.

its amazing how they performed the live show back then too. instead of just spinning vinyls like others at the time where they put all the studio equipment on a stage and recreated tracks from the album live. sounded different every time ! crazy how well together it all goes

Someone said a similar thing to me about these two albums the other day. I can't help but think its a strange thing to say.

By pop, I assume you mean:

- The melodies are easier to listen to
- The songs are more catchy
- The songs are easier to access due to vocals and 'song structure'

How can any of those things ever be considered negative? Except for the fact that because it makes songs more popular and friendly, it makes them less 'cool'. I would hope that you didn't think like that, because liking material based on its 'difficulty' is a pretty poor and elitest way to go about things.

Not saying that applies to you in particular or that its a personal attack. Some people simply 'like what they like', and I'm sure thats the case.

I always get curious when someone says music is too 'pop'.

thats the thing , i dont like catchy lyrics and easy to listen melodies

i like grittyness and distortion. tracks that raise the roof.

i still like discovery but i MUCH prefer homework and alive1997 and slightly prefer human after all

and i was dissapointed with justices album because i was wanting more waters of nazareths but instead got a gay track sang by kids. couldnt of been any further off what i was wanting :p

as for discovery making them more popular and friendly i dont think they could really of got much more popular. they sold out world tours before going to work on the album and it was one of the most anticipated dance albums of all time. it alienated a lot of he fans of homework but gained them a lot of new fans too.

digitalism have got it right i think. nothing on there that stands out as poppy but they still managed to crossover into the mainstream with it aswell as destroy clubs with the live show of it

Cant wait to see what they come up with this time and what direction they decided to move in, whatever they touch seems to turn out golden.
