Do you think it's like the Megadrive or Snes again?

During the 90s Sega and Nintendo were in an intense battle to out do each other. This was great for us gamers because it ment there was a constant stream of amazing games.

Now with the Wii, 360 and PS3 I think this competition is great for us gamers. Again we're getting a constant stream of amazing games. I think no matter what format you choose this generation you'll be extremely happy.

Different target markets I think and Nintendo have successfully chosen the wider audience. I hope that doesnt mean everything is like the wii next gen

I bought the Wii but I was disappointed. It's not the lock yourself in a dark room and play video games all day kind of console.

If you count the multi platform games (Which you must be doing to call it amazing on the 360) then you can easily say the same for PS3.

Come on now, be honest. Since the release of the PS3, there has most definitely not been a constant stream of amazing games for the system. Everyone knows that the major weakpoint of the PS3 is the poor quantity of decent games. This was especially prominent early on, but has become less so recently.

I think it's very different as those gens sold lots of consoles but where not raped by piracy. Nintendo are cleaning up on console sales but are getting demolished by piracy.

I don't know anyone young or old who has a legit DS and know very very few people who buy legit wii games.

The DS especially must be particularly bad.

Surely the attach rates on the cartridge consoles of the 90's would have been much higher. Although in todays times of the internet and modding the Snes and MD would have been hacked just as easily.

Although I agree with you to a certain extent a lot of Wii owners are non traditional gamers, for want of a better term, most of these are not tech savvy enough to know about mods or pirated software and just buy the latest "buzz" game, I know plenty of Wii owners for whom pirated software would not even cross their mind. Same with the DS, it's the only console my wife has ever owned and she paid £30 for ******* Tetris:rolleyes: She didn't even look for a preowned one. There are plenty more like her that now own a DS or Wii.

I also seem to recall that in the SNES/Megadrive days buying a game was a much bigger deal, some costing in excess of £50, most owners had about 5 or 6 games and that was it. The games market at the time was much younger, games buyers these days have much higher wages because we all grew up, I'm now buying games for myself and my kids, I'm not on £1.50 per hour any more.

Nintendo are really not getting Demolished by piracy, they are making an absolute fortune.

The 360 is having a damn good run, mainly because Sony has been resting on its laurels for far too long, MS kicked the original Xbox into touch a bit early and I feel released the 360 too early hence the high hardware failure rates. That said, it has really paid off for MS and they are currently ahead of the game, I do think that they will come a bit unstuck next year and wish that they had integrated a hard drive and not released quite so many damn variants of the same thing.

Time will tell :)

I assumed we were talking recent months rather than launch date to present day.

I've slagged off the PS3 many times for lacking top quality games (And it's still not where it should be) but it's been pretty even between 360 and PS3 since the back end of last year and probably will remain even for the rest of this year.

I don't mean financially Nintendo are being demolished by piracy, I mean by what they should be getting they are being demolished. Especially with the DS.

I think regards the wii you would be suprised as well, for all the people I know it's not about tech savvy they are giving them to someone who does it for them for a fee. Much like the PS one.

Even at my work place there is a spool of discs with games that people take copies of and 8 dvds floating around with 1500 or so DS games on.

I see what your saying regards game price with the Megadrive.

It has?

Only title that really appealed to me was Uncharted.

Regards the 360, this year has been next to rubbish for me. Worst year since it's launch.

I've bought R6V2 which dissapointed and Army of two which I kinda liked for a couple of days play.

Also Rockband which is great.

3 games this year all of which are multi format. Just about every thing I've played this year has been a let down.

There was no Megadrive vs Snes....I bought a Megadrive played it non stop till the Snes came out. Turned on the Snes, the Megadrive was put in the cupboard :p
