Behind you... Naked!
What happened to good old XMMS?

Every distro I seem to try out these dasys seems hell-bent on ramming Amarok down my throat.

And that sodding dolphin File-Manager seem to be sticking its oar in too!

Never liked dolphin... really don't get on with it at all. Dunno why anyone would want to use that.

Not too bothered about Amarok, so I leave it on my machine just I don't bother to use it. I used to always use xmms but have recently switched to exaile which I quite like.

Exaile? Ill have a look at that.

I too love XMMS - Obviously, it looks like WinAmp and WinAmp I prefer on Windows boxes, and with the Classic skin too! - its basic and its functional.

Rhythmbox. Yeah, good call.

Bloating seems to be the order of the day these days... Linux is I feel getting worse than Windows in this department, or at least the BS they seem to be piling in with their default setups seem to anyway.

Yeah XMMS pretty much got canned (it was last updated in 2003 or sometime long ago) so pretty much every distro has jsut removed support from it (it left the portage tree last year sadly). You can still get the old school versions of it but no one will fix the problems (and you probably have to compile it your self).

What are these problems? I have used it for yonks and never had a single issue

I use it as a clean nice and simple MP3 player and nothign more, nothing less.

I dont need it to tell me a load of crap that I already know about, especially when 99% of the time its minimised anyway.

I've recently installed Arch Linux and Debian Etch. There was no Amarok to be found anywhere.

Of course, if you install Ubuntu and its ilk, have a wrench handy. You'll need it to remove the inevitable kitchen sink. :p

LOL

I downloaded a number of PURE DEBIANS in the past and never once managed to get one installed right.

I also have a couple of ARCH CDs too and they are also not to my liking.

Cannot figure out why I cannot get the Debians onto a PC cos I got Potato Debian onto an Atari TT several years ago, and that was withotu any form of installer at all... It was all by hand and it took me 4 days just to get the CLI in
( Those were the days eh )

As for the kitchen sink, this is only half true

I'm using exaile atm as I'm in gnome :)

I tried rythmbox and it was nice, the main reason I'm using exaile is the albumart and dialog on track change.

I was using songbird as it looks like itunes :)
I just tried songbird again and it seems pretty bloated :( also I couldn't get the albumart stuff working on it. Shame really as I think the mediaflow addon looks really nice (like coverflow).
Also you seem to need to have a addon and application to scrobble stuff to last.fm :(

edit:
I just noticed banshee :) might try it altho it looks a bit bloated
