iRacing release price details

LFS desperately needs more work. The sound is still completely not up to the standard of the rest of the game, and it's a real shame, especially since if Scawen would just drop his simulated sound engine and use samples the whole problem would be solved. Driving the F1 and having it sounds like an electric toothbrush that's run out of charge, that just doesn't do it for me.

He also need to do something with the tyre model wrt the RWD road cars, and the FF since the game feels quite dead and lifeless much of the time.

I hope Scawen is going to continue into S3 and fix all this stuff since so much of the game is really good.

so, despite them trying to steer clear of them calling this a game, we basically have an mmosrg?

It depends how you look at it. On one hand it's still a game. But there are many testers who are motor racing fanatics first and foremost, who don't 'game' and take the whole sim racing hobby very seriously.

iRacing themselves are trying to build a sport, and they discourage the use of the word 'game' as they see the service and software as a serious simulation.

I guess the average age of the iRacing beta group has been about 30+, so the community has been pretty respectful and mature.

well in that respect lfs is not a game either, just it relies on the community to provide the services of the leagues etc

either way i royally suck at lfs so itll be no different in iRacing hehe

AND?

That means what in this day and age. It is not as if developers/publishers release games with stupid omissions is it?

I remember hearing about this a while back and thinking "sounds cool" - The more I hear now.. I hope it fails.

It wasn't as black and white as that. The only people who really understand the whole thing are the parties involved.

Of course there are always those who will jump on the grudge bandwagon, believe anything they're told despite the agendas present, and then happily perpetuate whatever half truth they feel like. I doubt they'll be missed.

There are a lot of features which are not yet implemented, but considering the service / sim is going to be continuously improved and added to over time, a launch date had to be set, and having tried it I think it's fair that it gets launched now. Others will maybe want to wait for additional features, but tbh the racing model is so good I'm happy to try it at launch.

I was one of the parties involved and yes it was as black and white as that, we and most other modders of NR2003 were told to remove our mods or face court, even tho the modders were what kept NR2003 alive for so long.

NR2003 has been kept alive PURELY because of the modders so it does appear "On the face of it" to pretty much stink.

You can argue the moral implications of editing the .exe file, but if you have bought the game and wish to make it better for yourself, editing the exe harms nobody. Much like editing a film so you like it better. HARMS NOBODY.

The game is in testing and it's having new features added daily, just go read up about it. Also unlike a regular release-and-forget game they'll be adding features to iRacing for several years (not only have they said they will but they will have to, to keep people subscribing). The game has been in testing now for four years, starting off as pretty much just networking testing which NR2003, and during those four years they've been steadily rewriting it all and continually adding stuff. It's a service not a regular game, there's no one-off purchase price. Also they've said that pitstops and flag rules are the next thing on their list.

I don't know all the details, but didn't they spend a lot of money buying the NR2003 source code from Sierra? They must have had some reason for wanting to protect that investment, lawyers don't work for free afterall so they weren't doing it simply to annoy you. As for 'keeping NR2003 going' it's not like Kraemmer or the iRacing team were getting any money from the game, Papy was long since shut down by then.

None of the rFactor mods I use modify the exe. Just because NR2003 wasn't designed to be easily modded doesn't give you the right to distribute mods based on hacked exes.

I believe mods based on the physics that were included in the sim were perfectly fine. There was even the excellent GTP mod which was allowed which used an altered exe. But even that had to had to be initially pulled and changed to comply with license infringement.

As fish99 says, there were obviously good reasons for them not wanting their copyright infringed. There are thousands of sim racers ready to start the service this week, so not too many people, apart from a few disgruntled modders and people who aren't fully aware of the facts, are bothered. They are having a gradual roll out of the service so the naysayers won't be joining anyway. As I say, they won't be missed.

I've not used my invite.
Too much oval and single seater emphasis for me at the moment.

Opinions from people I trust are that it is bloody good though.

there are invites? i would love to give this a go..\
EDIT: yeah just looked at their website, seems like theres nothing road going and decent to drive.

The first lot of Beta Testers could invite people into the next phase, which is ongoing at the moment.

To be included when they allow more people in you need to sign up for news updates on their website :)
