Are there any really good sites that give you a headstart into the game? I tried following the Taming guide from the forums and started in Jhellom. Ended up walking over what I later found out was a teleporter, at the same time as another char, and next thing I know I'm on a small island with a few shops! Took about 20 mins to get off having to wait for someone to use teleporter back - hehe!
uo.stratics.com used to be one of the best resources, but that was ages ago when I still played over on the official shards. I'm sure that a lot of the information on there will still apply though. Just remember that this shard is a pre-publish 16 shard, which means that only items relating to Felucca will generally apply. All the skill guides will still be relevant, although not all of the skills are available in the game. Your best bet would be to take a look at the skills available to you when you create your character, and read up on them. Also, the forums at UO Gamers have a good guide to do with the most popular character templates on the shard. It'd be worth a read too, although if you've never played UO before it might seem a little daunting. Stick with it though, you will find it extremely rewarding
If you never played UO, i admire you ! But don't be too speedy to quit because you'll find a lot of experienced player on the shard, generally trying to kill you some way or another or griefing, this can be daunting at first but the game really has its better faces as well, just a matter of trying to get the hang of the game and avoiding idiots.
I kinda like this shard i must say because it really reflects the memories of UO i had.
There are some PK, Hardcore PvPers that won't help noobs and that have only in mind their own person, that's a part of the game i mean pvp is really nice but the people doing it arent generally open minded, but on the other hand you have also really nice people that will help you no problem, give advices etc...
That's what made me play UO again, i can't wait to have a PvP ready char to try to get back the hang of it.
Also if you never played, i would suggest playing a tamer if you like having pets, really good ones too, or play some sort of melee char so you don't have to worry too much about magery at start.

Did you find the post on the UO Gamers site about character templates? If not, let me know, I'll try and dig it out for you so that you can have a read through common character types.

I'm making a smithy/miner goit atm. Cba to make a dex mokney although it is quite tempting tbh because of the cash prospects. I'm hoping my previous experience from pre-uo:r will help me stave off any cash issues.
Can't believe how much I have forgotten though. Its taken me about an hour just to setup some macros lol. Off to wrestle some birds!

I can see this taking a very long time to get the hang of. My first proper MMO was WoW and that holds your hand through every aspect of the game. I just died (attacked a few snakes, didn't kill them all so I ran back to town and went AFK. Whoops!) and have absolutely no idea how to get revived

I was mining in the noob minoc caves east of town. Then I lagged and saw a red called Sisko giving me a few whacks with a war axe I think. He only took my regs so I was Ok. Was mostly frustrated at the timely lag. Can't be bothered with a dexxer yet so my first char will be a miner smithy. Currently wandering around WBB hacking at trees for STR, combined with Arms Lore 
Hehe yeah I got killed mining outside of Minoc too. It was over the weekend. I was going to bring my lumber warrior there to try and kill my murderer but he wasn't strong enough. Still isn't, got to work on his magic resistance a bit before he'll be ready for some real action.
Nah, I don't think so. It can only be used twice in 24hrs and I've just used up my tries. Iirc you can only transport to neutral faction towns or something. I was in Cove for a bit and met a few nice players I wonder if Occlo is on the moogates?
