I'm looking to get a new mobo on pay day, but can't afford to get a quad core at the moment. What would a cheap c2d performance wise compared to a 939 socket amd x2 4200+.

Pretty sure a 2180 or lower would beat it. I went from 4400 x2 -> 2180. Both 2.4. I clocked the 2180 to 3.2 and its been running great since, on stock fan.

I've had it to 3.4 with pretty low temps and I'm pretty sure others on here have had them higher, 3.6 I think. Even the 2160 version.

This was back in December though so possibly something better by now.

I've always gone asus and probably will. but is there any other boards worth looking at.
needs wifi and a spdif out for sound, silent heat pipes and good for over clocking and full support for core 2 quads as that's what I will be getting when I can afford it.

I'm thiking of getting the
Asus P5K-E WiFi

I have this board and been using it since I got the e2180 in December. Been sitting at 3.2 since so must be fine for over-clocking.

It has built in WiFi but I hate how you connect the little aerial using a wire. Sucks. would rather just have the aerial attached to the board. Don't know if this effects you or not.

I know it does'nt have Wi-Fi or anything fancy like that but i got a E2180 to 3.6Ghz last week on a Gigabyte P31 DS3L. It's a fantastic little board and the best bit is that i got them both very, very cheap off the bay. £35 for the E2180 and £18 for the P31 DS3L, both brand new. That would leave you plenty to get a Wi-Fi card.

The Asus P5K range of boards are very good though.
