All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

Just been reading about it - glad to keep him on the books, now for a RB with the same attacking skills (hopefully not a worse defender either, Evra is ok but not brilliant defensively imo)

Wonder what the bid included this time. Probably threw in the kit man, a couple of groundsmen and the programme seller :o

Hopefully that's the end of our interest in Barry. Spend the money elsewhere or keep Alonso and leave Villa with an unhappy player who wants to leave. Doubt it'll happen though :(

I feel sorry for Alonso really. He publicly came out and said he doesn't want to go, but he's being pushed out by Benitez' obsession for Barry.

So if we don't end up signing Barry, we're left with a disillusioned Alonso who knows he's not wanted and hasn't got a future. Or we end up losing Alonso and get a lower quality player than either of them.

I can't understand why Liverpool are so desperate for Barry when Alonso is already twice the player. Something I've said since they were first linked with him.

The only thing i can think of is the possible 6+5 rule and also you need to register a minimum of 8 (up from 6) English players for the CL next season.

So who would you already have?

Carragher, Finnan, Gerrard are all domestic.
Reina, Riise, Kewell able to play as domestic?

I realised Riise, Kewell and Finnan are likely off, but from who you already have?

Reina counts as a domestic player? Surely he's not been here long enough nor came here young enough. IINM you have to have trained in this country for a certain amount of years as a youngster.

We've still got Pennant and Crouch but they're likely to leave. Which means we're left with just Carra and Gerrard.

It's not a big problem as you only have to register them, not put them in the match day squad and clubs get around this by registering youth players (and we have a few that may step up as squad players next season).

Benitez wants barry so he can field a unique formation of:

0
10
1

Lucas Mascherano Plessis Gerrard Barry Alonso Babel Benayoun Pennant Leto

Torres

The midfield will simply form a line on our goal line and link hands. They will slowly move up the pitch, keeping linked arms. Anyone who passes through the line is offside and at worst we give away a free kick for obstruction.

The players will take it in turns to kick the ball to Torres who will score from anywhere on the pitch because he is amazing.
