Since the introduction of dvd, hardly any films now come with previews. This makes it extremely hard to decide on what to watch over than heavily advertised block busters.

So recommend me some good less well know films. Got to abuse my 90 day free trial on lovefilm.
any genre will do.

You realise that you're going to get recommendations for hundreds of films. It's going to be very difficult for you to choose any.

I watch 2-3 films a week sometimes, and some of the best I've come across in the last few months are:

Hidden [Caché], The Lives of Others, The Machinist, Secuestro Express and London to Brighton.

Those are five quality films to enrich your life.

If you want something scary, I could recommend you many more, but I don't generally recommend scary films to people unless they ask.

.
Yep, I use imdb to narrow the list down. I can easily watch 10 dvds a week. probably more if it wasn't for the postage.

I which case I would definitely recommend you get hold of all - or at least some - of the above.

Treat yourself to a scary film and watch Ils as well. I've watched a lot of horror films but this one had my heart going within the first minute.

I don't know what your personal thresholds are for IMDb but I generally pay attention to anything above 6.0/10.

A few films I think are great:

The Machinist
Run Lola Run
Cypher
Pi
Cube
City of God
Rennaisance
El Mariachi/Desperado/Once Upon a Time In Mexico
Donnie Darko

WIll try to think of some others but those are all certainly worth a watch!!!

Valve

Dead Man's Shoes
The Death And Life Of Bobby Z

The only 'less well known' films I can think of. Good though, especially Dead Man's Shoes.

good taste apart from Rennaisance I have all of those

Why thank you.

Personally I really enjoyed Rennaisance. It was beautifully styled and a good story. Well worth a watch.

Have you watched the City of Men series based around the Favellas of City of God? I've had the DVD for ages but not got around to watching it yet.

A few others worth watching (if I can think of any...)

Secretary
AI (I know it's was a blockbuster type film but I think it's fantastic and a great look at what is 'Real')

Some supposed to be worth watching that i've got but not watched yet (it's a terrible habit of mine!!!)

Bus 174
Requiem for a Dream

Can't believe how badly my brain is letting me down, it's gone completely blank at the moment.

Valve

Gattaca
The Prestige (don't think that could be classed as a blockbuster?)

both must see's, along with the rest in this thread, there's a few new ones i'll be hunting :)

Severence is ok, kinda like shaun of the dead type film, in a forrest
