Beeston, Nottingham

i'm looking to move there shortly (if this house goes through, 3rd time lucky). there are 2 parts to it, the rylands and then beeston itself. the rylands in really residential, proper suburbia and is where seimens and boots are, across the road is the town centre, and across from that proper beeston. it has one of the most expensive streets in nottingham there, lots of old victorian houses that are still houses and not flats - very nice.

other than that it depends where you're working? it has a good bus service, a train station and will soon have the tram.

Certain parts are alright, certain parts are filled with us Uni students, though I've now moved to Lenton. On the whole it's OK. There are much worse areas of Nottingham.

Awesome bus service, good train service (London train every ten mins or so) and yea, the tram in a few years, at least! :)

agree, it's by no means a ghetto. just over the other side of the train station is a very good pub, nice range of beer. certainly worth checking out :)

I'm just outside of Beeston working (Chilwell).

Beeston itself isn't a ghetto (even though it will appear to be one when you get off the train).

And ooo, I know someone who works at said Boots.

TBH with the exception of the odd area, most of Nottingham is good (imho)

i reckon you'll probably be able to get a bus to boots. have you checked which entrance to boots you need to go in? there are a few, one of which is down by the powerleague and not really near beeston!

I'd have to disagree. I'd say that it's the other way round. There are some nice areas in Nottingham (The Park, Wolloton or whatever it's called) but most areas are deprived.

Beeston is rough in places, filled with charity shops/cheap shops and peasants. Oh, and students.

Having said that, some streets are ok and it's better than Lenton or some of the other much worse areas of Nottingham. Overall not bad, but not great.

Yep, I'd tend to agree with you. I like Nottingham to be fair. I have friends all over, Beeston, Lenton, West Bridgford, City a few live near The Forest tram stop and even that's fine!

I suppose if you're not a student, like the OP, then in comparison to other places you could live (when in FT employment) it could be considered so, but in terms of student areas it's much better than other student cities I've visited.

Wollaton ;) :p

Nottingham is good for the most part. Beeston is nice, you have two parts. Beeston high street and Beeston Rylands. Beeston Rylands is more industrial with a massive Boots and Siemens site and the High Street is where all the shops are. Normally all the OAP's are out in the high street during the day so it's nice and chilled out.

You do get some youths hanging about but who doesn't in this day and age??

Train station is old and could do with a bit of a tidy up, but it's walking distance from all the main facilities Beeston has to offer.

I'd happily live in Beeston.

Sounds like the comments of someone who has just passed through tbh, I wouldn't deny that there are certainly problem areas but in truth i can only think of a few, on the whole most of it is fine with often well established friendly communities. I certainly wouldn't have any issues with living or working in beeston.

For the record i've been in Nottingham since 1998 and have lived in various parts of Lenton, Castle Marina and now live out at Woodthorpe.

beeston isn't rough. parts of it may be tatty, mostly in the rylands, but go out the other side towards beeston fields golf club and there are million £ houses that way. it's not as poncy or wannabee as west bridgeford, yet has some very impressive streets, beautiful tree lined avenues and even some yummy mummies.

I lived in Nottingham for 3 years as a student and had mates who lived in Beeston. Used to do my shopping there at least twice a week at the big Sainsburys store. Just my opinion.

I'm sat in the office opposite Boots main entrance now, and can tell you Beeston is a nice relaxed place to be. Working in Boots, you'll be able to take a nice walk along the canal or the trent, you're about 10 minutes walk from the main entrance to Beeston station, with frequent trains to Nottingam / Derby and also to London.

I wouldn't mind living here, but I can't afford it, so I drive from Chesterfield each day on the loveley M1, although I'm thinking about swapping to the train permanently.

It is quite a nice area, especially when compared to other places in the city *cough*meadows*cough*. I wouldn't say it was any rougher than any other suburb of any other city, there's chavs everywhere these days :p
