David Davis, Shadow Home Secretary resigns as MP

A shame as I think that he would have made an excellent Home Secretary after a shocking bunch of incompetants that Labour has produced.

How the current Home Secretary keeps her job I just don't know. I can't recall a cabinet minister who has been so far out of their depth. It is not since Michael Howard that this country has lacked a Home Secretary with strength and conviction. He was regarded by many as a formidable Home Secretary.

good on him i say - i think he comes off very well by making this decision and highlights the erosion of civil liberties at the hands of the nufascist party.

He wants to call a by-election that'll cost the British taxpayer.

Let's remember that David Davis supports bringing back the death penalty and wants to remove the Human Rights Act.

There are only two reasons why he's doing this:

1) The Tory party headquarters want another PR coup and are prepared to use British taxpayers money to get it. In which case, this is a completely unprecedented attack on Parliamentary sovereignty where you throw a huge tantrum just because you don't get the result you want.

2) The real reason - he's had a spat with David Cameron and wants to undermine his leadership with this political stunt. Bear in mind David Davis lost to Cameron in the Tory leadership race in 2005.

What a plonker. I sincerely hope Labour doesn't even think about putting up a candidate for the political farce.

A rare thing in British politics today. A man of principles. Mr Davis I applaud you.

And ? Is that his reason for doing so ? You want to talk about costs and taxpayers money ? Let's discuss the amounts that Labour have flushed including 12 BILLION on a failed NHS computer system and a 2 BILLION upgrade to the MoD while other causes go begging.

Two issues that strike a chord with many people. The death penalty may be construed as more of a dterrent than we have now and the Human Rights Act has been abused many times as a shield for criminals to hide behind. I am 50/50 with the first and back the second. We all had human rights before this Act came out with judicial redress. Introduced by Labour, many court cases and Ms Booth a partner in a law firm that specialises in human rights cases. Cosy little arrangement.

I used to support Labour. I now support the Conservatives. What I’m saying is they can do without this.

I don't see how it can stop the roll that the Tories are on.

I will tell you here and now that I would not vote Labour in a million. We have seen an unprecedented rise in taxation, crime through the roof, police beaurocracy and red tape through the roof, the destruction of family values, rights given to scum on a par with law abiding citizens and sleaze that even the Tories couldn't match.

Disgruntled Tories voted Labour in and they will vote them out for the shower that they are. David Davis's moral stand, that I personally admire, will make no difference and I think it is a shame that this man will not be a future Home Secretary.

He's my new hero. I just hope this does really wake some people up to the continuous erosion of our freedoms by this joke of a Government. Government for the people, of the people, by the people I say.

Try 98 ron then, it may still taste rank but at a bargain £1.20 per litre you can get hammered and literally set the town alight on a tenner, can't do that on beer any more;)
Have fun:)

Fair play to the man, this is such a refreshing change from the usual ******** we get from the pollies.

Lib Dems have said they're not fielding a candidate; I'm not sure if this is an act of solidarity or pity.

I don't think he is doing this as a party coup. He is doing it because of the principle of the slow erosion of the rights of ordinary citizens. It's almost a personal vendetta against the ruling yesterday, hopefully by making a fuss now and showing it's importance people may think harder next time, as he believes the detention rate will increase again in the future.

.

Given that the latter is a huge problem I don't see it as a negative aspect. Far to much these days appears to be about peoples 'rghts' and it always seems to be the wrong people claiming their 'rights'.
