Roger Guerreiro...Polish... come on they aren't even trying to be subtle these days, even rushing his citizenship through - national football is beginning to resemble club football, soon there will be no need for the World Cup or Euro.

So who else is on the list of Brazilians etc who are really Swiss/Croation/insert small country here honest guv?

Just a quick browse shows up these patriots;

Switzerland - Gelson Fernandes (Cape Verde)
Croatia - Eduardo da Silva (Brazil)
Poland - Roger Guerreiro (Brazil)
Turkey - Mehmet Aurelio (oh please - Brazil)

The most famous one is Deco - Portugal.
Then there is Podolski the who is polish but plays for Germany.

The fact none of them have a chance of playing for Brazil probably has something to do with it

A bit like when Jackie Charlton had every Englishman and his dog playing for the RoI all because of a technicality that meant they could play because their Grandmothers once went to Dublin or looked a bit Irish

I don't think you can put Podoski in the same league as some brazilians playing for other countries. It is far harder for a Polish player to get into the German national team than a Brazilian getting into the Turkish team

Most of the Swedish team seem to be of 'something-origin'.

Famous Swedish names such as;

Rami Shaaban
Daniel Majstorovic
Zlatan Ibrahimović
Behrang Safari
Suleyman Sleyman
Kennedy Bakircioglü
Rade Prica
Louay Chanko

No, the boys a player and been head hunted thats why he plays for germany.
The poles would be a different proposition with a player like him upfront.

What about that player for Germany, Gomez or something...he was subbed earlier on tonight...he didnt look German nor did his name sound like one:p

Yup which is surprising especially in the case of Deco, hes a very good player i think and would have easily fitted into the Brazilian squad imho. Didnt realise that he was Brazilian originally until a few yrs ago. Also Scholari the Portugese coach is Brazilian isnt he??...led Brazil to the WC in 2002.

I thought that, Mario Gomez. Looked him up on FM and he's born in Germany though.

Hmmm interesting that is then...didnt realise that he was German born...i guess his parents are immigrants who moved to Germany before he was born...Gomez a German..who would have thought of that:p:D

Alessandro dos Santos is the chap you're thinking of. Good Japanese name that. :rolleyes:

There's occasionally the odd English castoff in the Scotland team. The dozen or so caps won by Nigel Quashie was probably the low point in that regard.

tbf when Deco chose to play for Portugal he wouldn't have got into the Brazil side, he's definitely progressed since leaving Porto.
