I've had my ear pierced in my younger years I'll admit (not worn a "stud" for years though) but people who go as far as pierce their knob etc. Well no sir I don't like that at all :p

My dads mate had this done not so long back, and he cant go to the bathroom properly anymore. I laughed in his face.

Oh god :(

I watched a program on eunuchs on Channel 4 a while back. One boy regretted having himself castrated after he had been convinced by people on the internet and told himself it was the right thing to do.

His father took it well though considering but he knew he would regret it as he got older and surely enough he did.

There was another guy who had attempted the process himself with a cattle castration tool

My balls were twitching watching that program. Never again :mad:

I don't think anything is too far ethically, but obviously there are things that I view as personally and aesthetically ugly/unpleasant/whatever.

Any sort of modification for medical/longevity reasons is a-ok with me and should be encouraged, though.

Me and a mate ended up watchin this in halls one night because the beer had gone and there was nothing else to do, i nearly cried and still wonder why

I dont know if ethically I think anything is too far, though people like Aubrey de Grey do make me think that there is possibly an ethical boundary.
Personally I can't see myself going as far as scarification anytime soon :P Although it does quite escape me why people find it disproportionately more vulgar than a tattoo.

Its the boundrie of either needles hitting the skin, or skinning you self.

Scarification is too far, and I went for that

Piercings can be fine, But obviously taken too far.

I have no problem with Tattoos aslong as they arent overly stupid.

I think tatoos, scarification (which is particularly stupid), piercings etc. are a totally different thing from augmenting the body's capabilities - they are just faddish vanity, where as bionics and body modification for a purpose are about pusing boundaries of capability and wll inevitably be a part of our future. I wouldn't so much as get an earing but i'd jump at the chance of being integrated with some serious tech. I'd like to cut microsoft out of the loop though, imagine the BSODs

I didnt vote on the pole because i think everything should be left down to nature bar one on the list: bionics/robotics for failed organs/limbs, i think thats ok but the rest should be left as is

where does cosmetic surgery come on tis list (2 separate ones, repairs etc after a crash orf ire, and just boob jobs nose jobs etc.)

Sometimes piercings, implants (not talking about traditional cosmetic enhancements) can look good, and certainly it is a statement about someone who you might otherwise make wrong assumptions about.

Not for me though, unless they perform some sort of function. Maybe a web browser under the skin in my arm would be quite handy, and perhaps an email client under the other arm.

Oh, and nanobots constantly repairing me.

And a spare Takeshi Kovacs style Envoy body sleeve in case I wreck this one :D
