I'm sure this has been asked a million times but....have I been done?

I was driving into Winchester this evening coming from a 40mph into a 30mph zone. I was coasting the car dwon in 5th gear and was still doing about 37-38mph indicated when I noticed a solitary police woman standing with a black radar/laser gun pointing right at me. I was well into the 30 zone by the time she would have zapped me.

I was fully expecting a police car to pull me in further up the road but nothing came of it. Can they save the pictures and send me a NIP or do they have to stop me there and then?

The gun was black and looked like it had 2 "cylinders" with a handle on the bottom. She wasn't beside a car or anything, just standing on the footpath with no police cars or other police officers around. She didn't even flinch when I drove past either, didn't reach for the radio or anything so either I was slow enough to get away with it or I'm on tape and about to get some bonus points.

What do you reckon?

Childkiller etc....

Sure is was a police woman? Maybe it was just one of these neighbourhood watch types that have been given a speed gun and hi-vi for the day to shut them up.

I've seen a tree clocked at more than 100 on one of those.

No car or anything? I'd laugh if it turned out some woman wearing some sort of fake uniform with a hairdryer scared you :p

Jokes aside, wasn't there a story on the news about people doing this in their local town for some reason?

I heard if they dont chase you then youre generally ok, not too sure on this but.
I had a similar thing happen and nothing came of it :)

Weren't those speed guns proven to give false readings? Suprising theyre still used if static objects can register speed on them.

very doubtful you have been done mate, usually, such traps have a marked car / bike sitting nearby to pounce on victims flagged by the hand held device.

No pull generally means no offence detected.

The mobile ones used by coppers don't take a photograph, they just show a digital speedo reading.

So she would have flagged you down in an early 19th century style "pull over" hand signal.

I had a Copper do that a while back when I was in my e38, I was doing about 47 in a 40, I waved back & carried on! - It was only a while later that I put two & two together & realized that she probably wanted me to stop! :o

Approx a year later & I have not had a peep from the Police, I think I got away with that one!

:D Brilliant R124/LA420 :D

As far as I knew, the guns just show speed and they either have to give chase or someone else has to give chase, they don't take a picture and so can't record reg etc. so you should be fine.

Thanks for the replies, looks like I might be a lucky boy :D

Come to think of it, it was strange that there wasn't a police car anywhere to be seen, not even sitting in the side roads. She was wearing a fluorescent "POLICE" jacket so definitely a cop.

Maybe they just gave a gun to a special and told her to stand there to get people to slow down?

Then you woke up and it was all a dream :D

Did the same thing myself once, and **** myself. Tiptoed around then pulled off the road and prayed there wasn't a police car hell bent on chasing me.

There was one of these lone radar gun 'cops' on a road coming into the village that is a 30 but everybody goes 40. Lucky for me everyone coming towards me was flashing, seemed odd so I just slowed down. Anyway read in the paper the next week that they had just sent out a bunch of do-gooders with guns and speeders were only sent warning letters instead of NIP's. Maybe it is this type of thing?

At least in Lancashire they don't always pull you over. They were parked next to a school and caught the bus driver going to fast. My girlfriend was talking to them at the time for some reason and they were definitely going to send him a surprise in the post. They do you for 34 round here if the mood takes them.

Oh i remember, for some reason they were driving a classic police car which had been in heartbeat or something, she thought it was cool.
