Hi

On uncharted drake's fortune chapter 3 "a surprising find" there is a cut scene on the sub where he is standing over the dead captains body and he finds the map.

On my PS3 there is some kind of black pixelated stuff moving around drake's face, body and other areas during this cut scene which makes everything look awful, but as soon as the cut scene finished this black pixelated rubbish disappears never to be seen again (hopefully).

What i would really like to know is has anyone else experienced the samething
with this game on there PS3?

Thanks

Could be a glitch with the graphics, maybe just a harmless hiccup in shadows processing. See if you can get that cutscene to play again.

Is it just on his face that this is happening or anywhere else on the screen? If you notice it in other areas on the screen it could be a faulty GPU.

It was fine for me, turn off the PS3, clean the disc and try to get the cutscene again.

I have turned my PS3 off and loaded the cut scene a few more times
and the same thing happens, the rest of the cut scenes are fine so is all of the in game action its just that one specific cut scene that is looking faulty
any advice?

Im still playing uncharted and have noticed the glitch again, this time in game and the problem is definitely shadowing, because the dark shadows that appear on drake when he's in the sun for example are pixelated/jaggy.

I cant be the only person who has noticed this, so at the moment im presuming this is normal am i right or wrong?

Also has anyone noticed when you pan the camera in game drake's face goes all blurry?

I definately remember this happening, it's just a problem with a shadow. The shadows are fine throughout the whole game and generally good on all PS3 games.

I went out this afternoon and brought another copy of uncharted and guess what this copy has the same shadow problems as the first copy had so ive come to the conclusion that it must be the game thats faulty or the shadowing is suppose to look that way because in addition i also brought resistance fall of man (which im really enjoying) and even though im only of the first mission the game seems to run flawlessly.

I was beginning to think that it may be my PS3 was faulty which would have been a bummer considering ive only had it for 1 day, so as a newcomer to the playstation family do you think im right or wrong?

To be honest it just sounds like you are seeing a technical limitation as a fault,

Shadows are jagged on the PS3, i wouldn't consider it "that" bad though, i think because everything else looks so good that the shadows really stand out as bad, i noticed it on MGS4 today, i think it is one of those things that is overlooked now but in 5 years we will look at it and ask how the hell we played with shadows like that

GT5 Prologue also has jagged shadows as does Motorstorm.

I think it is a limitation of the PS3 videocard or they intentionally leave the shadows low res/jagged to have other effects or to run the game smoothly.

Do jagged shadows only effect PS3 exclusive games, what about multi platform games that are also on the X360 like oblivion and cod 4?

I haven't got those games but I cannot notice it on GTA IV or at least I haven't seen them so it does look a lot like exclusive games suffer more.

I'm sure the kind of shadows we are talking about here appear in many games across multiple platforms, it's just one option game devs have of creating them.

They can look poor, but probably save on hardware resources which is why they are used.

Agreed, they are low quality to keep the game playable, Drake's Fortune with high quality shadows like Crysis would be too taxing for either console, let's not forget that the GPUs in the current console gen are no longer cutting edge.

Lost Odyssey has the same style shadows, kind of glitchy and triangulated..

Because I know it can't be altered it doesn't bother me, however screen tearing seems very problematic this generation and I can't for the life of me work out why games don't simply have v-sync enabed as standard?
