Ok, so having an arguement with someone on msn about this,

he seems to think the current Afghanistan crisis is classed as WW3, as the English, Americans, French, Italians & Japanese are involved.

I think hes wrong.

Your thoughts?

I think he's wrong,

The troop levels and countries fully involved are no where near the scale of the 2nd world war.

No, he's wrong.

That's essentially all there is to it but if you want a more detailed answer it isn't a World War as there aren't multiple (large) nations ranged against each other, nor is it spread across multiple countries, there might be quite a few involved but the majority are on one side against the Afghani rebels.

A world war would span many countries as an open battlefield Afghanistan is one country with the fight on occasion spilling over into the frontier of neighbouring countries. If Afghanistan was to be considered WW3 so would many other wars, Afghanistan is not actually a full scale war in its own right like for instance Korea was. It is more of a containment of opposition to the government installed after the invasion and disposition of the taleban. The involvement of many countries to support the current Afghan government dose not predispose the situation to be called a world war. The involvement of many countries is simply explained as a multinational force.

You know its a world war when Britain feels the closest its ever been. Britishness is strongest when were in need. Same applies for other countries, we'd be friendly to the frenchies now if it were WW3, i don't see that happening tbh.
