There's other cars that you could consider if you're going down the 'new car' route. Have a look at the Hyundai Amica, it's not everyones cup of tea but for £5000 brand new with 5 year warranty and deacent mpg and cheap tax its definitely worth considering

Edit: also maybe a Ford Ka, Fiesta etc.

ill have a look at the Amica, dont like Ka's or Fiesta's but im currently looking at the focus. So who knows i might not get a Aygo.
 
Forget the 60mpg, more like 50mpg & then only if you drive like a granny,
We have a 07 plate Fiat Panda semi auto ( made in Poland) it gives 60 mpg in the official blurb
but in reality it does around 53mpg for mixed local driving according to the computer, On a long motorway trip we get it up to 66mpg & this is with the gearbox in Eco/auto mode so it changes gear in the most economic way, another younger owner we know with a manual gearbox gets 40 -45mpg because he burns rubber,lol so its a lot to do with how you drive.
