Hi,

My brother recently got a 22" screen and I'm testing it for the night to see if I want one as well :p

I've been wanting the 22" Samsung SM-226BW for a while as I've seen a lot of good reviews as well as it being a trusty Samsung Viewsonic (I currently have the 19" 913N which has lasted me well and is still going strong after ~4 years I think).

Let's say my budget is £200. Is the 22" Samsung SM-226BW the best I'll get?

Thanks,
Craig.

I have a samsung SyncMaster 205BW and its the best thing ever! (yeah its 20" but close enough) so yeah get it and get it now! (so long as you have a decent gfx card for 1680x1050 like my 7800gt :D)

if u talking about lag its in second place after IiYama E2201W-B1 , but it might be a bit more better looking then Iiyama as it is glossy.

B2 is different then b1 version and i think they stopped making b1 for some reason so its harder to get one but its still best gaming monitor at market with no lag

u can find good reviews about monitors here : http://www.behardware.com/articles/689-1/22-inch-lcd-monitors-the-3rd-wave.html

u can actually find it in uk for under 200£ with vat and delivery just tipe in google.co.uk search in uk : IiYama E2201W-B1 and u find some stores selling it 189~200 £ .

i had to by mine for 250 as i live in ireland and they ad huge vat and etc..

one website claims the b1 is 0ms and everyone thinks its the best lcd out :p

Wouldnt it be identical to an s-panel'd 226bw ? which consequently is still 2ms grey to grey.

Personally i think theres no noticably better lcd's out than the 226bw when it comes to gaming.

I think the main argument for the Iiyama is that it definitely uses a Samsung panel, rather than the Samsung that may not.

I had the cmo one (apparently not as good as the S/A's) and it was very responsive for all use outside fps games. Considerably more so than the 24" screens i found, so i quite rate them myself.

I have an early 226-bw with samsung panel, it works great for most games but I find the black levels a little disappointing compared to modern lcd tv's (good news is that is helps to see in the dark on counterstrike hehe). Its a fast panel and all my concerns with display lag when migrating from a sony crt were thankfully unfounded.

Does anyone have a list of recommended settings for the 226bw with the samsung panel :)?

Mine's a more recent version, so can't determine panel type. My settings are:

Brightness 90
Contrast 85
MagicColor Intelligent
Color Tone Normal
Color Control All at 50
Gamma is Mode 1

If the 22" SM-226BW is anything like my current 4 year old SyncMaster 913N I'll be very happy. I'm sure any/most modern screens would be a lot better than my current 19" ;)

The SM-226BW is the same SyncMaster line with the same techologies (MagicTune, MagicBright etc.) so I think I'll be very happy with it.

This screen I currently have here is fine for games - 8ms response & it's 4 years old as I mentioned above, so the same goes for response times... I'm sure pretty much any modern screen will out do this one.

Does the SM-226BW come with screws etc. for the wall mount? I wouldn't mind mounting it behind my desk rather than putting it on my desk so I can be a bit further away from it.

i dont thing now monitors come with wall mount i think u need to buy it. BUT 22" screen its not to big u should able to fit in your desk.

ps: u will notice some big difference what u using now and 226bw

Oh true, but an s-panel based iiyama isn't 0ms like claimed with the b1 on some stupid site. Thats all i mean

its not?

I'm scared of LCD's...

Every since I brought my first one a few years ago, and sent it back instantly due to a stuck pixel :P Been using my CRT ever since.

Then last week I brought the 226bw...And yeah, its great, bit of backlight bleed top and bottom..But hey, most LCD's have that to be perfectly honest. (And that was one thing stopping me from buying one previously.)

Gaming wise, I've had no noticeable ghosting...And believe me, I'm VERY piccy :)

It looks good, plays good, it was an ace purchase.

Only downside, no height adjustment...But I don't need that anyway. Oh and the plastic tends to gather dust quickly ;)

Its starting to draw no.2 as you can see!!! besides... the gap will be far more noticable on games. What about tearing? what about 60hz limitations when it comes to smoothness on an fps game ? I'm talking about practical tests in games anyway.

This is like talking about the stats on paper for different cars for 0-60

Its still a stupid site :p
