Cars with Keyless Entry

The button on the door handle you do.

Or pull the door handle twice.

No you don't, walk up with keys in pocket, grab the handle and pull open, no pressing of the button or pulling the handle twice. This is the case with the S Class.

Different on the new gen S Class, and most of the recent ones from about 04 onwards.

Peoples point is that with manual lock you know its locked becuase you try the door and its locked. Yet with keyless go they think you walk off, car gets locked, walk back to see, car is unlocked, etc etc.

I'm going to be honest, I'd never given a system like this much thought - as the cars I like seem to all be at least 20 years old, that or extremely light weight focused (elise, westfield etc). In the 2 or 3 seconds I had taken to ponder such a system, this is something I did think would annoy me - as I always lift my door handle as I leave the car. Ah well, you learn something new every day, and if I'd thought about it properly I would have realized this.

I wouldn't tell anyone who had the system it was pointless though, I save that for rain sensing wiper systems! j/k :D

The system is works perfectly well and there is no doubt whether the car is locked or not. I've had it on my Audi A8 and now on my Lexus GS. Your milage may very though as I've only used the systems on these cars.

This is how it works:

Walk up to car and touch the door handle, it unlocks the car.
Sit down, press starter button
Drive
Press stop button
Get out of car
Press button on door handle, car locks.

How you can not know whether the car is locked or unlocked is utterly beyond me. I guess those complaining have never really had a car with that feature before.

was about to give the lexus side of things, but you beat me to it. Quoted for truth!

I have this system on my nissan. Works great. The thing I find really clever is the way it beeps at you should you leave the keys in the car (keys in my jacket on the rear seat is a favourite for me :D). The nissan system has a small rubber button on the driver/passenger and hatch doors. You just press it to lock/unlock the doors. The ignition is keyless too, just press the brake and turn the ignition. I've had the car for a little over two years and the keyfob hasn't broke/run out of charge. Ive used the same one since day 1 too. For backup, there is an actual key inside the fob, and a plastic cover on the drivers door and ignition that can be flicked off to reveal an actual lock.

In terms of gadgets though, I think the rain sensing wipers and auto-on headlamps are higher priority for me.

The one thing which I have found to be hugely useful on my car is the reversing camera. Its made reversing into a tight spot very very easy.
