Coldplay's new album...

SHOCK HORROR! There are people who like Coldplay and like other music!

You both could still easily be bland people :p

Of course it's a sweeping generalisation, I'm just saying that in my experience, that's been the case.

And Shamikebab, Metallica to Maiden to Prodigy to Pitchshifter is quite possibly the worst four bands you could pick to represent a broad spectrum of music. They are all pretty close genre-wise. Even The Prodigy.

thus proving your music knowledge isn't all that ;)

oh come on, I would hardly describe those bands as 'pretty close' you could argue Maiden and Metallica if you were really determined but no chance with the others.

Pitchshifter have major metal influences in their music, and so The Prodigy if you look at FOTL and post-FOTL material. Maybe less so in their earlier stuff, but it's still there. Metal/heavy rock is the overarching strand in 3 out of 4 of those bands, and heavily influences the 4th. So to try and say they show a broad range of music taste is completely ridiculous.

Maybe, although those 3 bands come from very different areas of metal and different eras. Metal/heavy rock as you put it is a huge genre with many different sub genres with a wide variety of sounds. I didn't say I had a completely broad range of taste, eyebrows would be raised if I mentioned Rihanna and Metallica in the same sentence. But I think its broader than quite a few peoples music tastes.

What does it matter what they represent? You either like something because it sounds good, or you don't if it's rubbish. What do you think of the new album?

Well, like I said, I don't like a lot of their stuff regardless, so my annoyance with what they represent is more the icing on the cake than anything. I've only heard the new album in bits and pieces because my housemates have been blasting it out since they got it. It sounds pretty dull.

This perfectly states what I think of Coldplay, and in a much better way than I ever could :p

FOR **** SAKE.

Another record RUINED by bad mastering. The sounds are distorted and far too loud, have a look at the amplitude of the wave in any audio editing programme.

I hope these record companies realise that some of us aren't listening to albums on our iPods the whole time and actually want sound quality. I'm going to take the CD back and acquire it by other means.

I've just started listening to this album seriously thinking it was going to be great having loved both Violet Hill and Viva la Vida, the latter of which I thought was brilliant. Anyways, the album opens with Life in Technicolour which served to strenghten my belief that this was going to be really good yet track two, Cemeteries of London made me check to see if I was still listening to the same album. It has only started to redeem itself halfway through "Lovers in Japan/Reign of Love" for me as I really like the piano bit and now "Yes" is sounding very good too, kind of almost like something from Parachutes, so let's hope the last two tracks keep up this trend. I know I'll listen to this album a lot more, hopefully it'll improve with repeat listens, being a big fan of Coldplay and I can't wait to see them in December but I've been left more than a little disappointed with this album.

...

I must agree, it's often very hard to make out what Chris Martin is saying as all the instruments are drowning him out in a mess of noise.

Argh! Just noticed that the case is too big to fit in my music rack!

Also, is it just me or is this album very disjointed, each new song seems to just push it's way past the last in an almost jarring manner?
