Best way to destroy a load of CDs?

I've just bought some 1TB drives and i'm beginning the process of moving everything off loads of CDs and onto the drives (consolidation).

So now i'm left with a load of CDs full of my files, my movies, etc.

What is the best way to dispose of them or to destroy them so they are useless?

I was thinking of a bucket filled with water and left overnight..............

Please note, I do NOT have the platform to nuke from orbit, I did not keep up my nuke-it-from-space platform membership payments.

EDIT: Cannot burn them.

cut them up?! You got kiddy porn on them or something, why dont you keep them incase your new harddrive dies?
 
break them....you need to damage the foil inbetween the plastic layers.
snap them in half holding them inside a towel
or
cut them with a knife that has jagged edges to open them then break them by hand.

but be careful of shrapnel when breaking them as sometimes they can be quite flexible then just smash....im assuming its sensitive data as thats why you want them destroyed.

magnets are meant to be pretty good but you would probably need a pretty powerful one

Nothing illegal on the CDs but I have a lot of files, documents, etc. It's just good housekeeping to dispose of them properly - just like shredding your documents.

I don't need to keep them for backups - I have Mozy :cool:
 
Use an old cd walkman and break the lid-closed tab and the center retainer, then you have a rather leathal CD launcher......close the lid, spin her up then release! hours of fun:D
