The focus ST170 is probably 2x the cost. Thats like saying a F430 is better than a Cayman.
No, its like saying "wait, save up, don't jump into the first nail you see because its in a nice colour". He could be driving round in a £600 Rover 400, getting a similar image, and saving up for something worth owning.
It's more of its in the same class. You could get one that cheap, might be a bit of a nail, better then the Rover

I can't, and you know it. But he could have put up with 120bhp whilst he saved for an actually decent car.

I didn't just jump on it because of the colour, I test drove a few different things, really couldn't figure out what I wanted, don't you recall my 8748482 "tell me about..." threads?

Surely he thinks this car is worth owning, he wouldnt have bought it otherwise, not everyone has the same taste luckily, and if Phate is happy with his new purchase how can anyone grade it as a car not worth owning? Its fit for purpose and a damn site better than his old Saab, surely.
As for the cardboard tube... £10k not a chance i could get that length for £1500 easily.
And my opinion is that you just jumped in, this is backed up by the "drove it and fell in love with it". Heart over head decisions always end up in tears.
Sorry, but you have, IMO, wasted the best part of £2k on a numberplate. There are numerous better (but older) cars out there for £2500-3000.

I disagree. It fits no purpose better than another car for the same cash. And his saab, whilst butt-ugly, wasn't a bad car.
The MG would have been superb as a rival to its class in 1998. It was a decade too late to the party.
How expensive do you think it is to insure a 20 year old male on one of those??
Probably a lot less than you think, due to not a lot of 20 year olds having a history of crashing them
Not really...I test drove lots of other cars, yes I could have got more car in something else but it doesn't help if I don't want it now does it?
330i for example, probably the best all rounder for 8k...I don't want one though. Even if I did have 8k to spend, it wouldn't be on one of them!
Fair enough if that's your opinion, you should really try a good condition one out (asin drive it) before dismissing it though. It's not all about tech specs, or what it does and doesn't have.
