All New Summer 2008 Transfer Merry Go Round/Rumour Mill

David Villa said:
Spanish sensation David Villa has hinted at a possible switch to Anfield to link-up with compatriot Fernando Torres it what would be the most devestating strike-force ever.

“Liverpool and Chelsea are both big clubs with a lot of attraction, Liverpool have a Spanish coach and I also have a lot of friends there.”

“When Rafa was coach at Valencia and I was at Zaragoza there was contact about me joining Valencia but I couldn’t arrive until the year after he left there.” he added.

Something to keep a smile on our faces, even if it is unlikely :)

Liverpool have enough goals in them already so I reckon Barry will be the priority over Villa (there's a joke there) especially as their midfield is easily the weakest out of the top 4:)

I'm not really interested in who has the strongest/weakest components of a team, I'm interested in the strongest/weakest team itself. Which currently clearly isnt us.

For me, Villa makes our team much stronger than Barry would. If you asked me which is the better deal, £20 million for Gareth Barry, or £20 million for David Villa...I know which one I would immediately, without hesistation, answer.

As for having enough goals, I dont think we do. One of the big things which people often say about us is..who would win you the match if Gerrard/Torres wasnt there. To be honest, with good reason too. In my opinion (and I am just an armchair fan, not a manager or footballing expert so take my opinion with as little regard as you wish), but imo , Villa would win us more games than Barry would.

If Liverpool want to improve sufficiently domestically they need to strengthen their weakest areas first before improving an area in which they do ok.
If I'm correct their regular MF currently consists of Gerrard, Alonso, Pennant, Benayoun, Kewell & Mascherano. Alonso is likely to leave and Pennant, Kewell and Benayoun just aren't good enough.
Buying Villa before sorting out your weaknesses is like Chelsea buying another goalie before sorting out their striker situation:)

we dont really have a traditional midfield nowdays though do we..
Its Lucas/Alonso, Gerrard, Masch, with Kuyt and Babel joining in too

Well, thats your opinion. Everyones is different. My opinion is that I would rather buy Villa for £20 million than Barry for a similar price. I personally would rather play Babel, Gerrard, Mascherano and Kuyt across the middle of the park, with Babel and Kuyt pushing forward, and Villa and Torres up front.

Like I say though, everyone has a different opinion and at the end of the day the only ones which count are Liverpools and David Villas. All we can do is wait and see what develops now.

We need to strengthen our wide areas before buying anywhere else imo. Valencia have said they're willing to listen to offers for Silva so he might be available for sub £20M. Where we're gonna get that money from I have no idea though :(.
