Dinosaurs and the Bible

Man made evolution, how many breeds of dog can you name?

And natural: Long legged hedgehogs.

Is micro-evolution not enough to prove it works?

Religion exists in the margins of science, not the other way round.

I know micro evolution works and is real. Its macro evolution that I wouldn't say without a doubt is real and is proven as it isn't. Its just a theory. Yes I myself tend to believe in evolution and that it sounds like the right way but I don't know just like most other people when they claim it is the right and only way.

I see lots of breeds of dogs but I've never seen anybody successfully get two dogs to give birth to a cat before. :p

Also the translation of the word day from Hebrew is misleading. It doesn't mean 24 hours, in its original sense it just meant a period of time.

disagree.

edit:
*everywhere* else where the hebrew word meant period, it gave a number to suggest the length in weeks/years or whatever. The only correct way to read it is as a literal day.

edit2 - i got it the wrong way around - number with yom means literal day, but I'm still right ;)

What does that have to do with evolution?

It was meant as a joke hence the :p.

What i'm saying is there haven't been any living examples of macro evolution that I know of.

Meaning something evolving from one species type into a new species type. All the different breeds of dogs are still considered dogs.

Not even every single animal in existence?

disagree.

How long was the first day then? Where does it say it is 24 hours? Maybe he had just created the earth and it was spinning very VERY slowly...

That's the trouble with the bible, you can read it all you like and put any interpretation onto it you want in order to service your particular beliefs...

At least JWs go with the word of the bible, rather than the rest of christendom...if you want to do some interesting research, find out where the bible says that you're meant to worship a cross, or where you're supposed to wear a dog-collar, or a dress, or a funny hat which makes you look like a fish, or burn incense...modern christendom is as far removed from the bible as sexual congress is removed from a handbook for an 1981 Austin metro (apart from the bit where you replace the winder for the driver's window).

Yes, hens have been found to have a lot of identical DNA to dinosaurs (recently, traces of dinosaur DNA has been extracted).

How is this an example of macro evolution? All it means is that both dinosaurs and hens use some of the same amino acids/proteins etc, which would be expected when they live in similar environments with similar resources available, no?

It could be spinning as slow as it wants, the only correct way to interpret the meaning considering the grammatical context is as a literal day. That doesn't change depending on RPM.

I don't know how long the first day was and thats the point i'm getting at. The word yom in Hebrew can mean any passage of time as well as meaning a standard day.

Why are you asking me to show you where it says the day was 24 hours? I'm not even saying it was 24 hours.

I agree with you. From a common sense point of view for me I certainly wouldn't trust the bible. Its like reading the result of a game of Chinese Whispers that has been going on for a few thousand years.

You misunderstand me, the whole point is that there isn't a "correct" way to interpret the bible.

How slow do you want it?
It already takes 24 hours to do one revolution.

The point was that if it takes 600 million years to make a revolution, that means that a "day" (a period of light/dark) would be 600 million years, more than enough time for dinosaurs to come and go.

:)

Why did you raise that point then saying you disagree with me, when I was saying the exact same thing as you've just said?

EDIT: Sorry got your post confused with Amleto's.

IIRC the hebrew word for day doesn't just mean between a period of light and dark. Plenty of 24 hour days could've passed and you could still say day in Hebrew as a measurement and still be correct.
