But good god.. now i've read a few threads I have no clue what to buy !!

I have a 32" toshiba Regza lcd screen and after seeing a few other bigger screens i've got the taste for a 42" telly, parents are going to give me cash for my old one.
Was more than happy with the PQ on this screen and naturally assumed that a bigger lcd was the way forward but now its seems I may be in the realms of a plasma. I *thought* i'd be looking for a 1080p screen that was 42" and that would be it !

I really watch very little terrestrial tv, doctor who and a few other things.. myabe 40%, I watch a lot of HD downloaded content, played from my shuttle into the hdmi input, i have a ps3 which i play games through and the odd blueray film, I also have a humax freesat HD box for bbc HD. To be honest its more that I sit down and watch a HD film and I want to enjoy the PQ as well as the movie... for example when I went to watch I am legend I was very disappointed with the picture at the cinema, but the HD version is so so much better and I want to get the full effect at home if I can.

So.. I've read about the Kuros and that looks great, but then it seems that for a few hundred quid less I could have something that wasn't "quite" as good but still probably good enough for me....
Then the lcd.. seems I could have a good one of those too !?

Sometimes I wish I didn't read forums and could just wonder into a shop and not worry about reviews and things I hadn't read about :D

My front room is bright.. telly will be next to a large window which isn't obviously a problem at night but during the day ? will a plasma really show its benefits ?

I should add that i have a great cinama sounds set in place already so sound is not an issue.

I don't know MUCH about tv's and all that, but if you thought the PQ of I am legend was better on an HDTV than in the cinema then I'd suggest you see an optician.

Because it was badly focused, down to the cinema i suppose but it still was.

Panasonic TH42PZ80 or 85. Job done.

Yea, I'm pretty sure thats the one that I have read is the contender to the Kuros for less money :) I will read more about it today !

Would you be concerned about the tv being against a large window, plasmas are always displayed in dim areas so I have no idea how they look in a bright room. Admitedly when I watch a film it evening or I pull the curtains.

Certainly nowhere near the kuros at all. Even a calibrated pr0 PH10 screen is along way away from even the 4280XD kuro.

The kuros really do offer the most sublime picture quality, especially in normal freeview etc footage where no other screen comes close. The panasonic arn't too bad but only you can decide whether the Kuros are worth *** extra few hundred.
 
Kuros are lovely TV's, obviously.

For the money, though, it's hard to beat Panasonic's TH**P** range. You get a lotta set for your money. One of the Pannys was also the only Plasma to feature as a best buy in Which's HDTV special last month.

Ye they are now, I see the 37 PX80 around 625 and the 42 under 700. Still not quite double :p:D

New Kuro 50 1080p @ £2500 :( Amazing value compared to the release price of the old ones, but Il post a thread of comparisons shortly ;)
 
shocker the panasonic fanboies are out! :p

Samsung are generally a bit cheaper than panasonic but are equally good picture quality wise... you just have to know what you're looking for

of course if you dont know what you're doing then its easy to get hit with a bad samsung set then blame em all as being shoddy. :)

Hit the nail on the head.

I've got nothing against samsung pq as such, though I do think the panasonics are better, it's issues with the build quality and consistency across the range that I have a problem with.

AVforums is littered with disappointed purchasers who regret getting a Samsung after having trouble with it. You'd be hard pushed to find anyone who regretted getting a Panny, unless it was because they wish they had saved for a Pio.
 
soon as i come across a bad samsung buy myself i'd be happy to agree with you :) (you guys do know i own a sammy hdtv?)

Obviously, why else would you recommend one.

I have a 40" m86. Its crap with motion, the PZ70 they had in comet was awesome. (Tamworth Comet) low lights, remotes for all the TV's and playing Blu-ray etc. Impressive. My Samsung LCD is a joke with motion,including BBCHD. Tempted to get a Pz80 if i can dump the TV somehow.

Well Firstly, I'm no 'fanboi'. If you read my thread you'll see I originally bought a Sony LCD and then switched to a Panny PX80. I don't have any brand loyalty, I only report on my findings.

Secondly, when you compare new range of Sammy with new range of Panny, The Panasonics are a massively cheaper, and they have been confimed by manny that the Panasonics are better in almost every respect picture wise.
I however have not ownded a Sammy, so couldn't directly compare with my PX80.
