Four drinks and it's a binge

I'd probably be floored after 4 pints anyway! (even with the amount of bodymass I have) :o I've been teetotal for so long that I get merry after just a couple of glasses of wine! Cheap date! :D

Its quite embarassing that because of my gut everybody thinks I'm a heavy drinker but I probably have a total of 3 bottles a week and 4 in one sitting would have me sitting very quiet up a corner.

I haven't got a gut, I'm just a weighlifting nut :p However alcohol affects me a lot more than it used to and people assume that owing to the fact I'm larger than most I can drink lots - I can't, though it's not something I'm worried about. As long as I can enjoy a good quality glass of wine, or a nice cold beer with some friends in the summer then that's more than enough for me :)

Gilly is about one of the only chaps here who knows how much I used to be able to drain! :)

Its .05 drink driving limiit down here and Zero tollerance on your L plates and P plates.

BTW Kevin Rudd is a huge ear wax eating ****.

hes put huge tax on Alchopops to stop under age drinking but never did anything about straight spirits.
Guess what all the young kids are drinking now?

They best not have a maximum drinking law in england, otherwise i won't bother with uni.

There would be mass outrage and how the hell would they enforce it.
Everyone has different tolerances anyway, I've done 20 pints over a 24 hour period before and felt fine until a few hours later when I started to come down. Some people find 10 hard.
Alcohol doesn't affect me in the way it used to, I can't get really really drunk any more. I hit a barrier, I know if I speed up i'll be sick and if I carry on it'll stay the same. If I stop i'll get tired.

I still enjoy it but I miss the days of crawling home from the pub, holding on to lamposts and singing.

I think the government should stop flattening tradition which brings pleasure. Or else i'll kill myself before I get old through boredom, I don't fancy becoming a boring old **** before my time.

This country has a serious problem with drink, people don't know when to stop. People can whinge on and on about the so called nanny state but sometimes the powers that be need to do something before we pile into oblivion

8 units seems more or less fair as a classification for binge drinking. If you drink more than about 8 units on a night out you're probably doing so with the intention of getting drunk, which is exactly what binge drinking is; you're unlikely to drink more than 4 pints or so if you're just going down to the pub for a drink with some mates.

As for zero tolerance drink driving, I'm not sure whether that's really workable – how would you know when your blood alcohol level has reached what can reasonably be called 'zero'? It could cause problems, for example if you've had a glass of wine at home with a friend and then an hour or two later go out in the car for whatever reason – that shouldn't be illegal.

This post exemplifies everything that's wrong with student life at the moment.

University these days is completely clogged up with 'students' who are only there to get drunk :(

personally i'd love to see a zero tolerance on drink limit, because it'd save a lot of confusion on alcohol levels,

as for "binge" drinking, you're either an alcoholic. in that your drinking every day, your a binge drinker because you drink on weekends and more of it, or your not a drinker lol....

I drink a couple of pints every 2nd or third weekend. There are some sensible drinkers about.

However I don't like this 0 tolerance for drink driving.

Should I have 2 beers (I'm in Belgium remember 9% beers) at 10pm will I have no alcohol in my bloodstream at 8am when I drive to work?

Would I be more responsible (loss of insurance, maybe licence) if someone crashes into me due to them only having 4 hours sleep?

Load of rubbish, people have been going out an getting drunk for years. Now some middle class **** who thinks everyone should be as boring as them has given it a name and sensationalised it to be bad and oh shock horror look what happens.
I ignore it, and finish my 5th bottle of jacques fruit cider.

Part of being active in my day was drinking, no wonder so many kids are becoming obese. If its deemed a bad thing by a load of misguided idiots.

What problems are caused by too much alcohol?

Excess alcohol can lead to health problems including:

* depression

* liver cirrhosis

* heart failure

* damage to the brain and nervous system.

Along the way there is often damage to relationships, finances and jobs and problems with the law.

S'up to you though pitchfork.

Not to mention the obvious social problems it causes :)

It's bad for us, i'm not a health freak, never have been, never will be, I only go down the gym because I enjoy it and if I didn't do that excercise would be at a minimum.

The problems you describe result mainly from being an alcoholic.
I go down the pub most nights, if I didn't I wouldn't see a lot of people, that would cause me depression. If I didn't have the release of having a good time up town a couple of times a week I would be depressed.
I suffer from phsycotic depression from heavy drugs use years back, drinking and socialising is the best cure in my eyes.

If you're getting smashed every day then it's a problem but going out and getting lashed is a commonplace thing and always will be I hope. It's a good thing.

Big up pitchfork, a real man's man. Here's to you and your future of health problems. It's not only middle classes who think the situation is bad, it has nothing to do with class so don't try and make out that we all think we're better than you because it would seem that you have a bit of a superiority complex going on there. Drinking causes obesity and numerous health issues. I only have a couple with mates while having a laugh and very rarely do i get smashed. People need to start going out to have a good time, not just to get hammered.
